Specification of Letters Patent. Patented June 20, 1922.
Application filed August 20, 1921. Serial No. 493,856.

Be it known that 1, DE FAY ZUMWALT, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city of El Paso and State of Texas, have invented new and useful Improvements in lVindow Locks, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention is a windowsash lock. The object is to provide a simple and efficient lock of this kind, readily attachable to the sash. and affording a strong and easily operable safeguard against housebreakers.

Figure 1 is a frontal elevation of a section of the upper sash with the device attached, and showing the catch raised so as to permit the lower sash to be raised.

The invention consists of a holding strip of of the lower corners of the upper sash 2, and having its lower end 3 bent back at right angles to engage the underredge of the sash 2. The sash is suitably mortised out at 11 to receive the strip 1, the end 3 thereof, and the other parts of the device, so as not to interfere with the raising of the lower sash 4 when desired. A catch 5 is hingedlyioined to the upper end'of the holding strip 1 and adapted to open outwardly and down upon the top of the lower sash 4, and this catch is provided with teeth metal 1 fastened to the front face of one and brace are then folded back flatly into the mortise 11. 1 While I have herein described a certain method of constructing and assembling the elements of my invention, it is understood same may be varied in minor details, not departing from the spirit of my invention as defined in the appended claim.
I claim:
In combination with the upper and lower sash of a window, the upper sash being suitably mortised to snugly receive the elements. a sash lock comprising a holding.
strip fastened to the front face of one of the lower corners of the upper sash, and having its lower end bent back at right angles to engage the under edge of the said sash; a catch hinged to the upper end of the said holding strip and adapted to open out and down to engage the lower sash; and
a brace hinged to the upper sash and adapted to engage the said catch to hold it in engagement with the lower sash.
