Description

E. H. ARLEDGEL DETACHABLE INSIDE DOOR LOCK.
APPLICATION FILED JUNE 9, I920.'
Patented Sept. 6, 1921.
ELBERT H. AELEDGE, OF FORT WORTH, TEXAS, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO HARRY HAMILTON, OF FORT WORTH, TEXAS.
DETACHABLE INSIDE DOdR-LOCK.
Application filed June 9,
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ELBERT H. ARLEDGE, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Fort lVorth, in the county of Tar rant and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Detachable Inside Door-Locks, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to door locks and more particularly to inside door locks for making a room or other place burglar proof; and the object is to provide a simple locking device which can be manufactured at relatively small cost and which can be readily applied to a door and removed therefrom. Another object is to provide a simple device which can be carried in a hand-bag or other place so that a person can lock himself in his room without fear of any one coming into his room. The advantage of this look that it can be quickly applied and removed from the door and is adjustable for different types of doors. Other objects and advantages will be fully explained in the following description and the invention will be more particularly pointed out in the claim.
Reference is had to the accompanying' drawings which form a part of this application.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the lock. Fig. 2 is a plan view, showing one way of applying the lock to a door.
Similar characters of reference are used to indicate the same parts throughout the several views.
The improved lock is reversible so that it is applicable to doors which swing either to the right or to the left. A body member 1, whichis adapted to project in between the door 2 and the shield 4 which is attached to the facing 3 and post 5, is provided with a stop 6 which is adapted to project through Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept e, 1&21.
1920. Serial No. 387,818.
the bolt or look slot 7 in the shield 4 into the cavity in the door facing. The body 1 has notches or slots 8 in the upper and lower edges for the locking devices. The body 1 is made reversible by the slots on the opposite edges. The locking member 9 is simply a U-shaped piece of metah either leg of which will form a stop for locking a door. Two studs 10 are rigid with the locking device 9 and are adapted to engage any two of the slots 8. Stop 6 is simply a tongue struck from the body 1 and bent at right angles thereto. The legs 11 of the locking device 9 form locks or stops. If there is no slot 7 and shield 4:, the loclr can be used anyway. The stop 6 may be thrust between the facing 3 and the post 5.
The manner of operating the lock is to thrust the body 1 into the position shown in F 2. Then place the lo king member in position, dropping the studs 10 into two of the notches 8 with one leg 11 against the door 2. The locking member 9 is also re versible. The stop 6 may engage any convenient part of the door jamb;
What I claim is- A detachable inside door lock comprising a body member for projecting: between the edge of the door and its abutment, a stop on said body projecting laterally therefrom to engage a part of the abutment of the door, said body having a plurality of notches in the upper and in the lower edges thereof a reversible iJ-shapcd locking;- member either leg of which may form a stop to engage a door, and studs rigid with said locking member and adapted to engage a pair of said notches.
In testimony whereofl I set l y hand, this 4th day of May, A. D, 1920.
ELBlllitT H. ARLEDGE.
