Patented July 28,1874.
.No.l53,442.
UNITED STATES PATENT QFFICE.
JOSIAH LETOHWORTH, OF BUFFALO, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN ROSETTES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 153,442, dated July 28, 1874; application filed February 28, 1874.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JOSIAH LETCHWORTH, of the city of Buffalo, in the county of Erie and State of New York, have invented a certain Improvement in Rosettes, of which the following is a specification:
The nature of my invention will be best understood from the following description.
In the accompanying drawings, Figures 1 and 2 are cross-sections, respectively, in lines or x andy y, Fig. 3. Fig. 3 is a bottom plan.
Like letters'of reference designate like parts in each of the figures.
A is the base or outer ring, made of iron, cast of any ornamental design, and b is the wire loop by which the rosette is fastened to the harness. It is secured to the ring A by being placed in the mold and having the metal of which the ring is composed cast around the ends. The inner edge of the ring or annular plate A is cast with an offset or shoulder, forming a seat for the edge of the inner disk 1), which is stamped out of thin sheet metal, so as to be readily embossed and afterward galvanized or plated, as may be required. The
base portion A, after being cast, is japanned,
when the central portion D, preferably of some contrasting color, as silver or white metal, is arranged and secured in place. As shown in the drawings, the flange or shoulder a is provided on opposite sides with elongated openings a. The disk I) is fastened in place by means of two short strips, (1, of tin,-one end of which is soldered to the edge of the rosette 011 opposite sides, when the outer ends are passed through the openings a and bent over or soldered to the under surface of the ring A, as clearly shown in Figs. 2 and 3.
What I claim as my invention is 1.. A rosette composed of the cast-iron portion A and inner sheet-metal ornamental portion D, when arranged together substantially in the manner and for the purpose described.
2. The combination with the cast a nnular portion A, provided with flange a and openings at a of the central portion D and strips (1, substantially as herein shown and described.
JOSIAH LETOHWVORTH.
