IMPROVEMENT IN DOOR-BELLS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No- 142,953, dated September 16, 1873; application filed March 12, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ELBRIDGE B. SIMS, of Antwerp, in the county of J efl'erson and in the State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Door-Bells; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification.
The nature of my inventioueonsists in an attachable and detachable metallic band surrounding the case of a door-bell, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in which Figure 1 is a side View, partly in section, ofa door-bell with exterior band, and Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the band.
A represents a cast-metal case of circular or other desired form, having a central post, upon which the bell B is secured. Around Q the cast-metal case A is placed a sheet-metal rim or band 1). This rim or band may be stamped out or otherwise ornamented in any desired manner and slipped onto the case A, and held by means of the bead to around the inner edge of the case.
The object of the rim or band D is that an inferior and cheap metal may be used for the case A, and when the band is put on the bell will still present a neat and handsome appearance, and can be manufactured much cheaper.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The bell-case A,'cast in any suitable shape, when used in combination with an attachable and detachable metallic band which surrounds the same, as and for the purpose set forth.
