4 UNITED STATES EUGENE A. WEBSTER, OF SPRINGFIELD, ASSIGNOR TO GEORGE H. STARK,
PATENT OFFICE.
OF PALMER, MASSAoEUSETTs.
IMPROVEMENT IN NAME-PLATES FOR DOOR-KNOBS, 81.0.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent N0. 200,634, dated February 26, 1878; application filed June 7, 1877.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EUGENE A. WEBSTER, of Springfield, in the county of Hampden and State of Massachusetts, have invented new and useful Improvements in Name Plates, which improvements are fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawings.
The object of my invention is to make a cheap and tasty name-plate, to be attached to a bell-pull or door-knob. It may be made of any material that can be molded, though I deem white metal the best.
The plate is constructed in parts, one of which 1 screw into the other, though they may be fastened together by lugs or set-Screws.
Figure 2 in the drawings is a front View of the plate, showing the shell A, on which the name is fixed, and showing the inner surface of the ring or collar B. Fig. 3 shows the position of the parts before being screwed together to clamp the knob 0. Fig.1 is a view of the backside of the collar B, the opening being in the shape of an oval, to allow of its passage over the knob when held horizontally, but when turned into place is held firmly into position.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1S
1. The shell A, in combination with an ordinary knob, substantially as and for the purposes specified.
2. In combination with a bell-pull or knob of the ordinary shape. the shell A and collar B, substantially as and for the purposes specified.
3. The collar B, cut away to allow of its passage over the knob when detached from the shell A, as and for the purposes specified.
4. A name-plate constructed to fit a knob or bell-pull tightly and conform to thefshape of the same, substantially as and for the purposes specified.
