IM PROVEVM ENT IN CORSET-FASTENINGS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 110,593, dated December 27, 1870.

To all whom t may concern:

Be it known that I, CHRISTIAN SCHIECK, of the city, county, and State of N ew York, have invented a new andlmproved Corset- Fastening; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable those skilled in the 'art to make and use the same, referenceA being had to the accompanying drawing, forming part of this specification, in which drawing- Figure l represents a plan of this invention, partly in section. Fig. 2 is a transverse vertical section of the same. I

This invention consists in an oscillating hook-catch mounted on apin which is secured in a suitable bracket, and round which is wound a spiral spring, bearing with one end against the bracket, and with the other end against the rear end of the hook-catch, in combination with a slotted plate, the bracket with the hook-catch being secured to one and the slotted plate to the other corset-spring, in such a manner that, by the combined action of the hook-catch and of the slotted platethe two corset-springs can be readily fastened, and a corset-fastening is obtained which is simple, cheap, and convenient in its operation.

In the drawing, the letter A designates a bracket made of sheet metal or any suitable material, and provided with two lugs, c, which form the bearings for a pin, b.

This pinforms the fulcriun for the hookcatch B, which is formed oi' a ilat disk provided with downwardly-proiecting lugs to receive the ends of the pin b, and having ahook, c, at its inner or front end, as shown in Fig. 2.

Around the pin b is wound a spiral spring, d, one end of which bears upon the bracket A, while its other end bears against the outer or rearl end of the hook-catch, so as to throw the liook c of said catch downtothe position shown in Fig. 2.

The bracket of the hook-catch is intended to be secured to one of the corset-springs, while a slotted plate, C, is fastened to the other spring, as shown in Fig. l of the drawing.

This plate is stamped out of sheet metal or made of any suitable material, and it is slightly bent or set off, so thatits slotted part will lie at upon the bracket A, said bracket being provided with guide-1L nges to keep the plate in the proper position.

When it is desired to fasten the corset, the rear end of the hook-catch is depressed, the hook is made to catch in the slotted plate, and, by releasing the hook-catch, the fastening is effected.

This device is simple in its construction and convenient in its operation; it is not liable to unfasten automatically, and it presents a surface which is not liable to injure the dress or other garment worn over the corset.

What'l claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

The corset-fastening constructed as herein shown and describedthat is to say, consisting of a bracket, A, provided with lugs a af, forming bearings for the pin b, carrying spring d on its axes, in connection with the oscillating hook B, with its projecting lug, and operating with the slotted plate C, substantially as herein shown and described.
