PAINT BOX.

Be it known that I, CHARLES E. DANIEL, a citizen of the United States of America, and a resident of Sandusky, in the county of Erie and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Paint Boxes, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

In paint boxes of the type herein disclosed it is customary to provide in the boxes a space in which the paint brush may be positioned when the box and brush are not in use and it is usual to place the brush in the box with the hair portion wet and readily deformable and to then permit the hair portion to dry in whatever position it may have assumed. Inasmuch as these boxes have heretofore made no provision for maintaining the brush in any definite position within the space. or to maintain the hair portion out of'deforming contact with the walls of the space objectionable deformation of the hair portion of the brush has occurred frequently and unless the entire box were handled with the greatest of care. My invention provides means for preventing this deformation. In the drawings accompanying this specification and forming a part thereof I have shown, for purposes of illustration, one form which my invention may assume. In these drawings:

Figure 1 is a plan view of a box of the type herein discussed and provided with this illustrative embodiment of my inven tion, while Figure 2 is an enlarged section on the line 22 of Figure 1.

The device herein shown comprises a.

box 11 provided with a cover 12 secured thereto by suitable hinges 13, provided with a space 14 adapted to receive a paint brush 15, and provided with a frame 16 having a plurality of apertures 17 each adapted to receive a receptacle 18 containing paint 19 and each formed by removing a portion of the frame 16 of less extent than the aperture 17 and then bending the excess portion of the frame 16 inwardly to form walls 20 arranged toengage the sides of the receptacle 18 positioned therewithin. Disposed within the box 11 is a clip 21 provided with a curvilinear portion 22 and an upright portion 23 arranged to grip between themselves the body 24 of the paint brush 15 and to thus hold the paint brush 15 in a fixed position within the space let with the hair portion 25 maintained out of deforming contact with the walls of the space 14 regardless of the angle at which the box 11 may be disposed. This clip 21 is secured in position by means of the co-action of the portion 23 extending along the side 26 of the frame 16, the horizontal portion 27 extending across the face 28 of the frame 16 to the adjacent aperture 17, the depending portion 29 extending downwardly along the corresponding aperture wall 20, and the lip 30 hooking beneath this wall 20, and the clip 21 is additionally secured in this position by the clamping action exerted by the receptacle 18 as it is placed in position within the aperture 20. f

It will'be obvious from the above description that I have provided means operative to maintain the brush in a fixed position-within the space provided therefor and with the hair portion of the brush out of deforming contact with the walls of the space and it will therefore be apparent that I have accomplished the purposes of my invention and have eliminated the annoyance and injury resulting in the boxes here tofore in use. It will be obvious to those skilled in the. art that the particular embodiment of my invention herein shown and descrlbed may be variously changed and modified without departing from the spirit of my invention or sacrificing the advantages thereof and 1t Wlll therefore be understood that this disclosure is illustrative only and that my invention is not limited thereto.

I claim:

1. A paint box having a space adapted to receive a paint brush and comprising a frame adapted to receive a plurality of receptacles filled with paint, a clip supported from said frame and adapted to engage the body of said brush to maintain said brush in fixed position within said space with the hair portion of said brush out of deforming contact, and a paint receptacle positioned in said frame and acting to secure said clip in position on said frame.

2. A paint box having a space adapted to receive a paint brush and comprising a frame adapted to receive a plurality of receptacles filled with paint, a clip supported from said frame and adapted to engage the body of said brush to restrain the movement of said brush within said space to maintain the hair portion of said brush out of deforming contact, and a paint receptacle positioned in said frame and acting to secure said clip in position on said frame.

A paint box having a space adapted to receive a paint brush and comprising a frame adapted to receive a plurality of receptacles filled with paint, a clip supported from said frame and adapted to engage the body of said brush to hold said brush in fixed position, and a paint receptacle positioned in said frame and acting to secure said clip in position on said frame.

A paint box provided with an elongated tray formed with a row of apertures each adapted to receive a paint receptacle and formed also of less width than said box to thereby provide beside said tray an elongated space adapted to receive a paint brush, and arovided also with a clip inserted into one of said apertures, gripped between said tray and the corresponding receptacle, extending into said space, and arranged to itself positively hold said paint brush in a fixed position within said space.

A paint box provided with an elongated tray formed with a row of apertures each adap ed to receive a paint receptacle and formed also of less idth than said box to thereby provide beside said tray an elongated space adapted to receive a paint brush, and provided also with means inserted into one of said apertures, gripped between said tray and the corresponding receptacle, extending into said space, and arranged to itself positively hold said paint brush in a .fixed position within said space.

6. A paint box provided with an elongated tray formed with a row of apertures each adapted to receive a paint receptacle and formed also of less width than said box to thereby provide beside said tray an elongated space adapted to receive a paint brush, and provided also with a clip inserted into one of said apertures, gripped between said tray and the corresponding receptacle, extending into said space, and arranged to hold said paint brush in a fixed position within said space.

7. A paint box provided with an elongated tray adapted to receive a row of paint receptacles and formed also of less width than said box to thereby provide beside said tray an elongated space adapted to receive a paint brush, and provided also with a clip supported by said box extending within said space and arranged to itself positively hold said paint brush in a fixed position within said space.

8. A paint box provided with an elongated tray formed with a row of apertures each adapted to receive a paint receptacle and formed also of less width than said box to thereby provide beside said tray an elongated space adapted to receive a paint brush, and provided also with means inserted into one of said apertures, gripped between said I tray and the corresponding receptacle, extending into said space, and arranged to hold said paint brush in a fixed position within said space.

9. A. paint box provided with an elongated tray arranged to receive a row of paint receptacles and of less width than said box to thereby provide beside said tray an elongated space adapted to receive a paint brush, and provided also with means supported by said box extending within said space and arranged to itself positively hold said brush in a fixed position within said space.

10. A paint box provided with an elongated tray arranged to receive a row of paint receptacles and of less width than said box to thereby provide beside said tray an elongated space adapted to receive a paint brush, and provided also with a clip supported by said box extending within said space and arranged to hold said brush in a fixed posi tion within said space.
