Patented Sept. 14, 1954 TISSUE DISPENSING CONTAINER Arthur A. Nudell, Chicago, 111., assignor to The Nudell Plastics Corporation, Chicago, 111., a corporation of Illinois Application June 17, 1950, Serial No. 168,739
1 Claim. 1
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in tissue dispensing containers and more particularly to a container from which individual sheets of tissue paper may be manually withdrawn.
An object of this invention is the provision of a container of this character constructed in a manner such as will permit packing or placing the tissue sheets in bundle form within the container with the minimum degree of effort. To accomplish this object I provide a container of the character hereinafter described, with a removable bottom, upon removal of which the tissue sheets in bundle or stacked form may be easily placed in the container without disturbing the stacked formation of the tissue sheets and be held therein for manual dispensing therefrom by replacement oi the removable bottom.
Other objects will appear hereinafter.
The invention consists in the novel combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention will be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawings showing the preferred form of construction, and in which:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the invention;
Fig. 2 is a bottom plan view of the same showing the bottom wall in latched position;
Fig. 3 is a bottom plan view similar to Fig. 2, but showing the bottom wall moved to a position for removal;
Fig. 4 is a sectional detail view taken substantially on line 4-4 of Fig. 1.
My improved tissue dispensing container comprises a top wall I0, having integral side and end walls The top wall I is provided with a longitudinally extending slot I2 through which the individual tissue sheets are adapted to be removed. Intermediate the ends of this slot l2 and extending transversely of the top wall ID in communication with the slot I2 are finger slots I3 through which the fingers of the hand may be projected to readily engage the uppermost of the tissue sheets to withdraw the same through the dispensing slot I2. The side and end walls preferably terminate in an outwardly extendin horizontal flange |5. The container is provided with a base l4 having vertical side and end walls l6 secured to the peripheral edge of the flange I5 with the said side walls I6 depending downwardly from said flange.
At predetermined points and in confronting relation with respect to each other and extending laterally inwardly from the side walls l6 of the base and located in vertically spaced relation 2 with respect to the flange l5, are lugs II which provide, together with the flange l5, parallel grooves I8. These lugs Il may be formed either as an integral part of the sidewalls |6 of the base l4 or may be separate pieces fixedly secured in-a suitable manner to such side walls. At predetermined points, oneof the side walls l6 provides,
positioned upon the flange I5, to be moved 1ongitudinally of the container. Thisbottom wall provides notched-out portions 22 of a width and depth suflicient to permit passage therethrough,
of the lugs |'I. When the bottom wall is in the position shown in Fig. 3, the lugs I'I will have been projected through the notched-out portions 22 of the bottom wall. In this position of the lugs IT with respect to such notched-out portions, and with the bottom wall 2| supported on the flange I5, such bottom wall may be shifted to the right as viewed in Fig. 2, thereby to dispose adjacent edges 23 of the bottom wall 2| in the grooves In order to frictionally latch the bottom wall 2| with its edge portions 23 in the grooves I8, I
provide one or more ribs 24, which may be slightly tapered at their opposite end portions to facilitate their entrance into, and wedging in, the grooves There may be formed in the bottom wall 2|, finger notches 25 to facilitate the shifting of the bottom wall with respect to the flange l5 during either placement on or removal of the bottom wall 2| from applied position upon the flange l5.
To arrange a stack of tissue sheets in the container, it is only necessary to remove the bottom wall 2|, after which the stack of tissue sheets may be conveniently placed in stacked form within the container. This removal of the bottom wall 2| is accomplished by shifting the bottom wall 2| in a direction to dispose the lugs I! within the notches 22, after which the bottom wall 2| may be quickly and conveniently removed. After the stack of tissue sheets has been arranged within the container, the bottom wall is replaced by passing the lugs I! through the notches 22 and then shifting the bottom Wall longitudinally of the flange I5 to engage adjacent edge portions 1 3 of the bottom wall within the groove 18. This shifting movement of the bottom wall 2| will effect wedgin engagement of the ribs 24 in the grooves I8 and thereby releasably latch the bottom wall in place,
As before stated, the container may be suspend 'ed from a wall by suitable hangers having their shank portions engaging the notches 2B and their head portions engaged in the space between the lugs l1 and the lateral projections 19.
While I have illustrated and described the preferred form of construction for carrying my invention into effect, this is capable of variation and modification without departing from the spirit of the invention. I, therefore, do not wish to be limited to the precise details of construction set forth, but desire to avail myself of suchvariations and modifications as come within the scope of the appended claim.
Having thus describedmy invention, what I claim as new and desire to, protect by Letters Patentis:
A container for tissue sheets or the like comprising a body having arectangular top wall, side and end walls integra1 with the said top wall and depending from-the periphery thereof, a removable bottom wall for the container of less length than the length of the side walls, said side and end walls terminating at their lower edges in an outwardly extending horizontal flange, a base for said container having vertical side and end walls secured to the peripheral edge of saidjflange with said side and end walls of said base depending downwardly from said flange, said side walls of said base having inwardly extending horizontal lugs parallel and of a width equal to said flange, said lugs being below and in vertical spaced relation to said flange, said bottom wall having formed in its opposite longitudinal edges notchedout portions for the passage therethrough of said lugs when said longitudinal edge of said bottom wall is being placed upon said flange and said bottom Wall is in a preselected position with respect to the end walls of said base, and longitudinal edge portions of said bottom wall adjacent said notched-out portions being slidable between said flange and said lugs to secure said bottom wall to said container when said bottom wall is moved in a horizontal plane on said flange between said end walls of said base.
