Description
H. M.. HINSDILL.
` Writing Tablets. N0,l51,59|, Patentedlun 2,1874.
UNITED STATES PATENT l OFFICEo HENRY M. HINSDILL, OF GRAND RAPIDS, MICHIGAN.
IMPROVEMENT IN WRITINGjTABLETS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 151,591, dated June 2, 1874; application tiled May 5, 1874.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, HENRY M. HrNsDILL, of Grand Rapids, in the county of Kent and State of Michigan, have invented certain new 'and useful Improvements in Writing- Tablets, and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use the same, reference heilig had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specica-tion.
My invention consists of a rubber suspendin g-loop and tubular pencilholder in one piece, as a new article of manufacture and trade, for attachment to office memorandum-books and other articles for oflice and school use.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure lrepresents a View, in perspective, of my combined rubber suspending-loop and tubular pencilholder as applied to an office scratch-book; Fig. 2, a detached view of the said rubber loop and pencil-holder.
This device is more especially designed as an attachment to the office scratclrbook patented to me January 7, 1873; but it is readily adapted to other articles for like purposes, slates, &c.
The loop A is of soft rubber, and has a tubular pencil-clasp, B, of the same material, through which the pencil is inserted and held,
and these two parts are formed in one piece with a suspending-eye.
In the example shown, as will be seen by dotted lines, the holding end a of the sus-y pending-loop is clamped between the leaves and back of a scratch-book; but it is obvious that it may be fastened to other things in any suitable manner.
This device, by means of its elasticity, may be made to sustain.considerable weight without tearing or otherwise injuring its fastening, and will easily adapt itself to any one position in which it may be placed, While the tubular clasp will hold different-sized pencils. It is convenient for attachment, and, being cast of one piece, with the pencil-clasp on one side of the loop, the simple fastening of the loop supplies also the elastic pencil-holder on the flat front side of the loop.
I claiml. As a new articleV of 'manufacture and trade, the combined rubber suspending-loop and tubular pencil-holder herein described.
2. The combination of a suspendingloop and tubular pencil-holder, in one piece, with an office memorandum-book. Y
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own invention I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
Ttilesses: HENRY M. HINSDILL.
EDWARD TAGGART, VJAMES A. ROGERS.
