Description

J. L. LEWIS PRICE TAG I Filed April 2. 1924 Patented Nov. 1d, 1924.
JESSE L. LEV/IS, E. li-LLENTQWN, PENNSYLVANIA.
salon TAG,
Application filed. April 2,
To all ZU/ZOY/Z it may concerne- Be it known that I, rlnssn L. Lewis, a citizen of the United States, residing at Allentown, No. 730 Cedar Street, in. the county of Lehigh and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful im n'oveinents in Price Tags, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to labels and the like and has a special referenceto a price tag of the type intended to be attached to samples of cloth and other like articles by means of a suitable pin.
Gne important object ofthe invention is to improve the general construction of devices of this character.
A second important object of the invention is to provide an improved device of this character wherein only a single pin is used for the attachment of the tag, the device being of an improved and novel construction and the point of the pin being covered when in position on the article.
at. third important object of the invention is to provide a simple and improved device of this character wherein the point of the pin will be locked in a secured position so that it cannot accidently spring up and injure the finger of a person handling the article having the tag thereon.
It is to be understood that besides the above objects other objects are attained as will be understood from what follows. The invention itself consists in general of price tags of novel construction as hereinafter described in detail and as shown in the drawings and pointed out in the claims.
The drawings which illustrate one emhodiment of the invention, the same numerals are used to indicate the same parts in the different figures, and:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the price tag ready to be applied to an article.
Figure 2 is a front view of the price tag as applied to the article with the pin ready to be moved to locking position.
Figure 3 is a back View of the same.
Figure 4i is a view similar to Figure 2 y but showing the pin in its final position.
Figure 5 is a detail view showing a. certain pin used herewith.
The invention consists of a strip of foldable material such as paper, card board or the like, bent intermediate its ends as at to provide a rear end portion 11 and a front end portion 12. The extremity of the front 1924-. Serial no. 703,898.
end portion is doubled back and under as at 13 and a- T-shaped slot is punched in this front end portion with the head 14 of the T parallel to the end edge of the strip and the stem 15 of said 'l' extending longitudinally from the doubled portion 13 which substantially underlies this T-shaped slot. In the rear end portion 11 is formed the transverse slit 16.
In connection with this transverse slit there is provided a pin which is made from a single length of wire, the head of the pin being formed by a loop 17 which is inserted about half way through the slit l6 and is then doubled down as indicated at 18 in Figure 1 so that the extremity of the loop lies on the inside of the portion 11 of the tag and the pin extends downward beyond the end edge of this portion. This part of the pin is then bent at right angle so that the point end 19 extends forwardly in the direction of the remaining end portion 12.
When the device is applied the pin is run through the cloth or other article and the front end portion 12 is bent down to lie flat on the cloth. The pin is then bent up over this front portion as shown in Figure 2 so that the point enters the stem 15 of the T-shaped slot. Finally this point is swung in one side as shown in Figure 4:. Thus the point underlies the body portion 12 and is protected by the doubled part 13. Also, under these conditions the point cannot accidently spring up and catch the tinger of the user.
lVhile the above illustrates one embodiment of the invention yet many others will be obvious to those skilled in the art. It is therefore desired that the claims shall be read as including all such obvious changes.
blaving thus described the invention, what is claimed as new, is:
1.. A. price tag consisting of a strip of foldable material adapted to be doubled intermediate its ends to provide two ends, one end being provided with a T-shaped slot having the head of the T adjacent the end edge of the said end and the stem of the T extending longitudinally away from said end edge, and a bendable pin having its head portion secured to the remaining end of the strip and its point portion adapted to overlap the first end, project through the stem of the T and be moved to one side thereof to lock beneath said end.
2. A price tag consisting of a strip of llO toldable material adapted to be doubled interinediate its ends to provide two ends, one end being provied with at T-shaped slot having the head of the'T adjacent the end edge of the said end and the stem of the T extending longitudinally away from said end edge, and a..bendah1e pin having its head portion secured to the remaining end of the strip and its point portion adapted to overlap the first end, project through the stem of the T and he moved to one side thereof to loel; beneath said end, the last inentimied end being doubled bark iinvatrdly upon it self to provide it pocket for the pin end.
In testimony whereof I :iflix my signature 15 in presence of two Witnesses.
