FASTENING DEVICE.-

My invention has for its object to provide improved means for attaching a tag or ticket to a garment or other object by means of a button on said garment or object, and to this end it consists of thenovel construction hereinafter described and defined in the claims.

The numeral 5 indicates what may be assumed to be two parts of a garment connected by a button 7. This button 7 is attached to the under part of the garment by a thread which is worked back and forth to form a shank 8 for said button and which button is inserted through a button hole 9 in the upper part of the garment 6.

As is illustrated, he invention is embodied in a price tag or ticket 10 formed from a relatively stiff piece of paper or card board.- Said invention consists of a T- shaped button passage 11 formed invthe tag 10 near one end thereof. The'head of the passage 11 is in the formof a slit 12 and the stem thereof is in the form-of a slot 18. Said slot13 is of such width as to freely receive the button shank 8 when the button 7 is inserted through the slit 12. The slit 12 has a width, if any, materially less than that of the button shank 8 and prevents said shank from entering said slit by a movement of the tag 10. By this construction, the button shank 8 always remains in the slot 13 and keeps the tag 10 transversely centered in respect, to the button 7.

The formation of the T-shaped button passage 11. leaves two flaps 14 under the slit 12and at the sides of the slot 13. Both the slit 12 and slot 13 must each have a length that is greater than the diameter of the button 7.

To attach the tag 10 to the garment 6, by means of its button 7, it is only necessary to press the tag 10, above the button passage 1925. Serial No. 34,850.

Then by moving the tag 10 endwise, in the direction of the arrow marked thereon in Fi 2, the flaps 14 will be caused to pass unc er the button 7 and said button to enter the slit l2 and its shank 8 to enter the slot 13. A further endwise movement of the tag 10, in the same direction as indicated by the arrow marked thereon in Fig. 3, will carry the button 7 completely through the slit 12 and its shank 8 to the lower end of the slot 13. Then by giving the tag 10 a reverse endwise movement, as indicated by the arrow marked thereon in Fig. 4, said tag 10 is so positioned that the buttonshank 8 is at the upper end of the slot 13 and said tag prop erly positioned and held by the button 7. said tag is first moved into'a position shown 7 1n Flg. 3 and then said tag given a reverse 7 endwise movement, and at the same time said tag is lifted to engage the button 7 and thereby bow the flaps 14 downward to permit the button 7 to pass out of the slit 12 and its shank 8 out of the slot 13.

Referring now to the modification shown in Fig. 6, the tag 15 has a button passage 16 identical with the button passage 11 with the exception that the slit 17 has at its ends extensions 18 which project inthe same di rection as-the slot19, but as shown are in diverging relation. These extensions 18 may vary in length and even if they were as long as the slot 19, the button passage 16 could be still termed T-shaped in form. By providing these slots 17 with the extension 18, greater flexibility is given to the flaps 20. These extensions 18 also make it possible to insert a much-thicker button through the,
