Be it known that I, \VALTON DUANE SMITH, a citizen of the United States,- re

such tags which are constructed to engage but-tons provided on the garments, such as ready-made clothing, knitted underwear and the like.

One ofthe principal objects of my invention is-to provide a. marking .tag cut from a single piece of material, and so folded-that when itis attached to abutton of the garment it will be retained in position and not liable to be shaken or. dislodged therefrom while the article is being exhibitedor shown to a customer.

Another and important object is to provide a tag in the form of a blank creased transversely of itself, thereby providing inner and outer connected leaves of the same size and configuration, which are adapted to be folded one upon the other, the inner leaf being provided wit-ha slot through which the button is caused to project and the outer leaf having a notch adapted to fit under the button and in this manner hold the tag in place. p

\Vith these and other objects in view, the

invention consists in the construction and novel COInbll'lfltlOILOf parts hereinaften'fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, and pointed out in the claims hereto appended; it being understood-that various changes in the form, proportion, size and minor details of construction, within the scope of the appended claims, may be resorted to without departing from the spirit 'or sacrificing any of the advantages of this invention.

In the drawing, 6 is a blank preferably oblong 1n shape and adapted to be cut or stamped from asheetof any suitable flexible material, such as paper, cardboard, celluloid, or. the like. The blank is adapted-to be creasedon the line 8, and the leaf 10 folded over upon the leaf 9, as shown in Fig. 3.

The inner leaf 9 is provided with an elongated longitudinally extending elliptical slot 11 adapted to slip over andreceive a but-ton 12, attached in any suitable manner, as by threads, to the cloth of the garment. The slot 11 is of such alength and so positioned that it terminates short of the ends of the leaf 9, andis centrally arranged, so that.

This, is particularly desirable when the tags are to be used by traveling salesmen. In this way, the permanent connection of the tag to the clothing is provided for, which is necessary in someinstances.

The tag is simple, easily applied and removed, inexpensive and cannot become detached from the garment in ordinary usage.
