Description

May v2, 1933. B. LIEBowlTz 1,906,690
GARMENT FASTENING DEVICE Filed April 4, 1930 Patented May 2, 1933 [UNITED STATES n PATENT ol-Flclfv E., Biriwrailuiik LIEBoWrrz, or NEW Yoan-N. Y.,-Ass1GNon 'ro s. LIEBovrrz a sons, ING.,
OF YORK, N. lY., lA CORPORATION OF NEW YORIKy GARMENT FASTENING DEVICE This" invention relates to fastening devices,
more especially those adapted to be used in` the rfolding of garments, as vfor instance,v
shirts. In folding shirts, at the laundry-or 1,53 factory, it is customary to use a seriesof pins throughout the garment, and these pins are not only hard to remove, but they are `apt to stick and injure the person attempting to remove them.
10. One object ofthe inventionis to provide a" 153 tening means are kept '-covered. vA furthe-rk object is the arrangement of the pin covering means so that the pin or other securing means willbe actuated to a releasing position Vwhen n' the cover is removed. n v 302 For a clear descriptionkof my invention,
I refer to the drawingwherein vone* modification of my invention is shown. n l f Figure 1 shows lmy securing means as applied to a shirt.
Fig. 2 shows my securing means.. i v n Fig. 3 shows my invention when in itssecuring position. Y r f n j y Fig. 4 shows the manner in which the cover operates to move the securing means to releasing position. y
Referring now more particularly to, the drawing, Fig. 1s`hows a shirt l() to which'my securingk means j 11 is applied for holding 35- portions of the shirt in a certain folded position. AReferring more particularlyto Fig; 2,
my securing means *consist of a lower portion or base 12 which maybel composed` of` paper, cloth, or any other material, said portion 12 carrying a pair of staples or pin-like elements 13, which may be secured thereto Lin any manner. WhilegI have shown a pair of f staples 13, each consisting'of two wire prong members, it should be remembered that one n 45 staple 13 may be used, and that it mayconsist of a single wire'prong or other fastening device.
Vthe ^position of Fig. 3, thatis with thetwo prongs ofveach staple preferably bent in the .same rdirection but oppositely and away from the two portions constituting of firststraightening the staples or manipu- In-` actualy .practice lthe portion l12 of the l staple13, maybe inserted under part of the` Y 50 shirt 10 or material 14ito bey secured'fas'is yAppim'cion.ma April 4,1930. serialk No. 441,441.
shown in Fig. 3. After the staples 13 are passed throught-he material, the cover 15 may be placed over the same, the staples 13 being adapted to pass through perforations 16 iof they cover, which perforations, however, are not necessarily preformedlas they may vbe formed by the passage of the staples themselves. The staples 13 are then bent over into the bent prongs of theother staple, in which y position theyv are in securing `or fastening p0- sition. Portion '17 of the cover 15 is then bent over to the positionof Fig. 3 wherein it covers or envelopes the staple 13. In this position, the portion 17 of the cover 15 is kept in cov-l ering relation tothe staples by cooperation of the slotted portions 18 vand 19 ofthe cover.
Whenit is desired to unfasten the 'shirt 70` for use, it is merely necessaryv toy movethe cover portions 17 in the direction of the ar- -row v2O rfrom their position of Fig.3 to the*-y positionof Fig. 4. It will be observed that this movement of the` cover moves the staples 13 to ank upright-position sothat the coverl canbe removed, and the garment released from the-staples with great facility.
It is also possible to remove the base 12 f and staples 13 as a unit without the necessity lating thecover. This may befcdone by inserting the fingers under the folded and fastened portions 'of the shirt or garment, and then pulling the base 12 out, thus withdrawing `or sliding the bent staples from engagement with the material of thezgarment and. releasing the' folded portions thereof. In rsome instances the cover 15 may be dispensed with, and withoutleXposing the bent over' portions ofthe staples 13. ThisV may Vbe'eifected by applying the base 12 to the outside instead of the inside ofthe folded portions of the garment and causing the staples to Ypenetrate theV material inwardly, and then bending over the ends of the staples onl the inside of the folded portions.
` `WhileI have shown one particular embodiment of my invention, it should beunderstood thatmodicationsof the same with- 100 Y in the scope of the appended claims will rea-dily occur to one skilled in the art.
