COMPANY, A COR-PGRATION OF ILLINOIS.
GARMENT-FORM.
Application filed August 30, 1915.
To all whom 2'2 may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWIN C. WAKEFIELD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and uset'ul Improvements in Gannent-Forms, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in garment forms, and has for its object to provide a device of that nature which may be readily constructed of cardboard or similar material possessing a certain amount of fiexibility.
Another object is to provide a device of this nature which may be utilized either as a garment hanger or a garment form and one which is constructed so that it may be readily arranged to present a convex body portion or bust form so that it may be utilized for ladies coats or similar garments which it is desirable to pack or hang so as to prevent wrinkles or creases.
These and other objects I attain by the structure set forth and described in the following specification and shown in the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure 1 is a front elevation of my improved device in fiat condition;
Fig. 2 is a perspective of the same after it has been adapted for a bust form; and
Fig. 3 is a view similar to Fig. 2 showing a coat as packed in my improved form.
Like numerals refer to like elements throughout the drawing, in which 10 indicates my device generally comprising the body portion 10 of heavy cardboard or the like, and provided with the upstanding hanger tab 10 which is apertured at 10. When in use as a garment hanger this tab 10 may be hung on a hook or the like, while when used to pack a garment in a box or the like the tab 10 may be folded over in back of the collar of the garment, as may be obvious. The body portion 10 is provided with an enlarged aperture 10 from which leads a slit or out 10 to the bottom of the device, as shown in Fig. 1. This forms two flap portions 10, 10 respectively. In the flap portion 1O is provided the slot 10 while the other flap portion 10 is provided with the Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 2, 1920.
Serial No. 48,109.
It is important that the slit or incision 1O be located substantially at the longitudinal center of the blank, and the opening 10 located substantially midway between the top and bottom edges or" the blank, for the reason that when either of the flaps 10 or 10 is flexed across the other from the opening 10 as a center, the blank will take on the form shown in Fig. 2, wherein it will. be seen that the blank is bulged up and convexed with respect to the opening 10 as a center in close simulation of the human figure.
It will be obvious that my device is susceptible of modifications and improvements, and I do not wish to be restricted to the form shown or described beyond the scope of the appended claim.
hat I .claim is:
A garment form and hanger consisting of a flexible blank having the general configuration of the human body from the neck to the hips, said blank having a suspendin tab at its upper edge and also provided with a single straight incision located at the longitudinal middle of the blank, intersecting the bottom edge thereof and terminating at its inner end in an opening disposed substantially midway between the top and bottom edges of the blank, said incision dividing the lower half of the blank into substantially duplicate flaps capable of being flexed across one another from the opening as a center, one flap having an integral tongue on the bottom edge thereof and adjacent the slit, and said other flap having an aperture located near the outer edge and also the bottom edge of said other flap and into which the tongue may be received in the flexed condition of the blank to hold the flaps overlapped, said blank in its flexed condition being convex With re- 10 spect to the opening as a center.
In testimony whereof, I have subscribed my name.
EDWIN C. WAKEFIELD.
