SIGN FASTENING.
APPLICATION FILED APR.15, 1913.

Specification of Letter: latent.
Patented Nov. 25, 1913..
Application filed April 1:, 191:. Serial no. ream.
To all whom it ma concem:--
Be it known that I, Gnonon TENNIE, a citizen of the United States, residin at Chicago, in the county of Cook and tate of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sign-Fastenings; and I do hereby declare the followin to be a full clear, and exact description 0 the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which'it appert-ains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in sign fastenings, and has for its object to provide a, device which is formed integrallywith a sign and by means of which the sign may be held firmly in position on a wall or similar structure.
Another object of my invention is to provide a means by which a sign may be attached and clamped in such a way that accidental removal of said sign will be stantiall eliminated.
A stil? further object of my invention is to provide a sign of the above character, which will have fasteners formed integrally therewith.
With the above and other objects in view, I will now proceed to describe my invention in the following specification and accompanying drawings, in which,
Figure 1 is a top plan view of a sign, as it would appear in the blank, showing the prongs in their flat position; Fig. 2 is an edge view of my improved sign showing the same as it would appear when being applied to a wall in the first operation; Fig. 3 shows the sign in a second position; and Fig. 4 shows the sign after it has been attached.
Referring to the drawings by characters of reference, 5 indicates the body portion of my 1m roved sign, having in each cor-'- ner thereo a tapered slot 6. These tapered slots 6 are spaced inwardly from the edges of: the sign and are adapted to form prongs 7 which are provided with the spear points 8. Intermediate the prongls 7 and integral with the body portion of t sign, I prefer- .where' it is subably provide a tongue 9 which is adapted to overlie a portion of a wall when the device is a plied. i
Interme iate the ends of-the sign and formed integrally therewith, I preferably provide outstanding prongs 10, which are provided at their outer extremities with spear'points' 11. v
The method of applying the improved sign is as follows: The signis first struck out of a suitable piece of material and the prongs bent, as shown in Fig. 2. The prongs of one end-of the sign are then pressed firml into the wall at the point esired to place the same, as clearly illustrated in Flg. 2; the sign is then bent upwardly in its middle, as clearly illustrated 1n Fig. 3, and the prongs on the opposite end are pressed firmly into the wall. Thus it will be seen that the sign will assume a bowed osition, as clearly illustrated inFig. 3. T e next operation is to press the. prongs 10 into the wall and, when the sign is in its hung position, the body portion. 5 will be flattened against the wall, as is clearly illustrated in Fig. 4.
. It will be seen from the foregoing that my improved sign is particularly simple in operation and that, as the prongs 10 are pressed into the wall, a clamping action is obtained between the ends of the prongs 7 and the outer edge of the wall, whereby the sign will be held more firmly in lace.
While in the foregoing I ave shown and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, I wish it to be understood that I may change the specific arrangements of parts without in any way departing from the spirit and scopeof my invention as set forth in the appended claim.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim is:
In a device of the character described, a body portion, prongs in each corner thereof, tongues at the ends of the body portion intermediate said prongs, said tongues and prongs being integral with said body portion and separated from each other by slots, laterally extending prongs intermediate the ends of the body ortion and formed integral therewith, said aterally extending prongs being bent at right angles to the 5 surface of the body .portion and having s ear points at their outer extremities, the rst mentioned prongs being bent at an angle to the body portion and adapted to hook in a wall when the deviceis being put in place.
In testimonfy whereof I aflix my signature in presence 0 two witnesses.
GEORGE TENNIE Witneses JERIAHMIKE D. Jozms,' Bnnr F. Krsnn.
