with the tongues on the base of the fasteners adapted to be threaded through the slots of the keeper means opposed relation and in frictional engagement with each other, whereby papers maybe more securely bound together.
Another object of the invention is to provide a flexible, non-metallic paper file fastener which is efficient in use, economical to manufacture and not liable to get out of order.
With the above and other objects and advantages in view the invention consists of certain features of construction and operation of parts which will hereinafter be described and shown in the accompanying drawings in which:
Figure l is a perspective view of the file fastener ready for assembly;
Figure 2 is a perspective view of the file fastener completely assembled; and
Figure 3 is an elevational view in cross-section of the file fastener completely assembled showing the relation of the parts thereof.
Referring more particularly to the drawings the parts of the improved paper file fastener are made of heavy paper stocksuch as fiberboard, cardboard or the like and comprises a base i including a body portion 2 having spaced narrow fiat elongated tongues 55 and 3' formed integrally thereon and capable of being readily bent at right angles to the body so as to pas through perforations t in the paper file ii. The novel feature of the present invention resides in the pressure plate 5 having keepers I and 1' providing locking devices as an integral part thereof, with the pressure plate 6 being perforated at each end to provide apertures 3 and 8 which are adapted to receive the tongues 3 and 3, respectively, on the base i.
The flexible, non-metallic paper body portion 2 including the tongues 3 and 3 of the base i and the pressure plate 6 of the file fastener may be reinforced by gluing a fabric material to the faces thereof, with the compressor plate 5 being preferably less flexible than the body 2 and the tongues 3 and 3' of the base i.

The flaps 9 and 9' extend in opposed relation to each other toward opposed ends and are provided with transversely extending slots l2 and 12, respectively, through which the tongues 3 and t, are adapted to be threaded.
The compressor plate E5 is stamped out of the fiberboard or other similar material in one operation, which results in the compressor plate havthe aforesaid apertures 53 and 8, and the cutout keepers 7 and i, including slots l2 and I2, formed thereon.
When applying the device comprising the present invention, the base I of the file fastener is laid out fiat, with the tongues 3 and 3 bent upwardly at right angles thereto. The file of papers t, which have previously been punched at proper intervals forming the apertures t to receive the tongues 3 and 3, is then placed on the base I. The fiaps 9 and 9 of the keepers I and 1, respectively, on the pressure plate 6 are pushed up with the fingers, causing the flaps to be in an ele- Thereupon, the compressor plate i5 is placed on top of the file, with the tongues 3 and 3' extending through the apertures 8 and 8' in the ends of the compressor plate. The tongue 3 is then bent inwardly over to the right, with the end thereof passing under the flap 9 of the keeper 1, thence upwardly through the slot [2, and acros the main body H of the compressor plate to the slot [2' in the keeper l", through which it is threaded downwardly, emerging under the fiap 9 of the keeper l". The tongue 3' is then bent inwardly over to the left with the end thereof passing under the flap 9; then through the slot [2, where it crosses over the main body of the compressor slot to the slot 1 2 of the keeper 7 with the tongue 3 being under the tongue 3. The tongue 3' is then threaded through the slot l2, emergin under the flap t of keeper '3 above the tongue 3.
As a result of this operation the tongues 3 and 3 will extend in opposed relation to each other toward the ends of the compressor plate 6 from the keepers l and l and in loose relation thereto. To secure the file fastener, the tongues are pulled tight in opposite directions until the file is bound tightly.
It is apparent from the foregoing description and Figure 3 of the drawings that the tongues 3 and 3' are each firmly gripped by the edges of the flaps 9 and 9 surrounding the slots 12 and 12 of the keepers or looking devices I and 1, respectively, as they extend therethrough. The locking devices I and l, furthermore, clamp the tongues 3 and 3 together in frictional engagement with one another, thereby preventing the tongues from slipping out of the locking devices. In this manner the compressor plate having the locking devices of the fastener formed thereon binds the papers together tightly and is not easily separated.
It will thus be seen that there is herein provided a novel and eflicient form of file fastener which is well adapted for the purpose intended. Even though there has been shown and described certain features of construction and operation of parts, it is nevertheless to be understood that Various changes may be made therein, if the changes do not depart from the spirit or scope of the claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and wish to secure by Letters Patent l. A paper file fastener comprising a base member provided with spaced tongues, and a compressor plate cooperating with the base member and provided with terminal apertures arranged to receive the said tongues, the said compressor plate including dual keepers comprising flaps formed integrally with the compressor plate, the said flaps being bent outwardly from the compressor plate along a connecting edge and disposed a predetermined distance from the said terminal apertures intermediate thereof, the said keepers having slots therein through which the tongues are threaded in opposed relation and in frictional engagement with each other.
2. A paper file fastener comprising a base member provided with spaced tongues, and a compressor plate cooperating with the base member and provided with terminal apertures arranged to receive the said tongues and dual lock ing devices formed integrally on the compressor plate intermediate the terminal apertures substantially equidistantly therefrom, the locking devices comprising flaps bent outwardly from the compressor plate along a connecting edge extending in opposite directions and having slots therein through which the tongues are threaded in opposed relation and in frictional contact with each other.
3. A paper file fastener comprising a nonmetallic base provided with spaced tongues, and a non-metallic compressor plate cooperating with the base and comprising an elongated plate provided with apertures at its ends arranged to receive the tongues and dual keepers formed integrally adjacent to the middle of the compressor plate, the keepers comprising raised flaps extending angularly outwardly from the compressor plate in opposite directions from each other towards the ends of the compressor plate and having slots therein through which the tongues are threaded in opposed relation and in frictional contact with each other.
