E. E. FRANCE MEASURING DEVICE FOR CANS Filed Sept. 23, 1922 Edward E F m'nce WITNESS: ATTORNEY to provide the flanges 3.
Patented Sept. 23, 1924-.
UNITED STATES EDWARD E; FRANCE, OF BEAVER DAM, WISCONSIN.
MEASURING DEVICE FOR CANS.
Application filed September 23, 1922. Serial No. 590,109.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWARD E. FRANCE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Beaver Dam, in the county of Dodge and State of Wisconsin, have invented new and useful Improvements in Measuring Devices for Cans, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a measuring device for cans and the like, the general ob ject of the invention being to provide a holder which is located in the can and which can be removed through a hole in the can so as to remove a portion of the contents of the can.
Another object of the invention is to provide the holder with a movable inner end and a handle so connected with said end that when the holder is shoved into the can the end will be flat and when the holder is pulled from the can the end will be raised to prevent the contents of the holder from escaping.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claim.
In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure 1 is a plan view of a can with the top removed.
Figure 2 is a section on line 22 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a detail View.
In these view 1 indicatesthe can which is provided with an opening 2 in its wall at the bottom thereof, the parts of the wall forming the opening being bent inwardly A holder 4 is adapted to he slid through the opening, said holder being formed with the large front end 5 which will fully close the opening and overlap the walls thereof to prevent the holder from being entirely shoved into the can. It is also provided with the hinged rear end 6 and a partition 7, said partition and rear end forming the holder proper. The space formed by said partition and rear end and the sides may be made to hold a teaspoonful of material or a tablespoonful so that the device can act as a measurer. A wire handle 8 is slidably mounted in the partition and ,front end and is connected with the rear end by the eye piece 9. These parts are so arranged that when the handle is moved inwardly the end 6 will be swung downwardly so as to facilitate the holder being placed within the can and when the handle is moved outwardly to withdraw the holder from the can the end 6 is swung upwardly, thus holding a certain quantity of material in the holder. By this invention a certain amount of the contents of the can can be withdrawn therefrom by simply removing the'holder, the hinged end facilitating the replacing of the holder in the can and insuring the contents filling the holder and said end acting to prevent the contents from spilling out when the holder is withdrawn from the can.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and 'novel features of my invention will be readily apparent.
I desire it to be understood that I may make changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claim.
l/Vhat I claim is A can having an opening in its bottom portion, a drawer slidably arranged in the opening and having its outer end enlarged to cover the opening, a partition in the drawer, flanges in the can for preventing material entering the front part of the drawer, the inner end of the drawer being hinged to its bottom, a rod sliding through the front part of the drawer and the partition and hingedly connected with the end of the drawer and a handle on the outer end of the rod.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
EDWARD E. FRANCE.
