"[IlNITnD STATES OSCAR R. HYDE, OF WASHINGTON, DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, ASSIGNOR OF PATENT DFFICE.
ONE-HALF HIS RIGHT TO IRA B. HYDE, OF PRINCETON, MISSOURI.
IMPROVEMENT IN TEMPORARY BINDERS.
Specification forming part ofLetters Patent No. 150,761, dated May 12, 15721; application filed April 4, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, OSCAR R. HYDE,of Washington, District of Columbia, have invented an Improvement in Temporary Binders, Yof which the following is a specification:
The chief object of 4my invention is to automatically open the le or binder, and thus hold the saine, while both hands of the operator are free to arrange and insert the letters or sheets of paper to be led or bound, and thus obviate the common difficulty of opening the le, and holding or locking the follower while Vthe letters are being inserted. My invention consists of a novel construction of file cover and sheets of paper in place. Fig. 3 is a vertical transverse section of the saine, showing the gage upon the follower.
In constructing my improved iile and binder, the bed-piece A and the needles D may be ar! ranged in the usual manner. Upon the standards H are two coiled springs, C, which support the follower B', and keep the points of the needles D free to receive the letters or other papers, as seen in Fig. '1. The follower B slides freely up and down upon the standard H, and' it is provided with a drooping lip or gage, .I, which regulates the insertion and ling of papers as follows: One or more letters or papers are inserted above the points of the needles, and abutted against the gage I, Fig. l. Then a slight stroke or pressure of the hand upon the follower B forces the letters down upon the points of the needles, and thus completes the iiling, as seen in Fig. l, at F.
If desired; the needles may be threaded and the papers bound in the usual manner.
Having described my invention, I claim- The above-described file and binder, provided with a series of needles,D, in combination with the follower B, which is held clear of the needles by means of the springs C interposed between the brace or bed-plate A and the follower B, substantially in the manner and for the purposes set forth.
OSCAR R. HYDE. Witnesses:
