R. BIESHUNs VANITY CASE Filed m. 12, 1924 tions .18 and 19 which out above,
Patented Sept 9, 1924.
BICHARD I. IBIESHUNS, OI YORK, N. Y.
vnnm CASE.
Application med January 12,1924. Serial No. seams.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, RroHAnD I. BESHUNS, a citizen of the United States, residing at No. 583 West End Avenue, New York city, New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Vanity Cases, of which the following is a specification.
yv invention relates generally to ladies vanity cases and has reference more particularly to a type of toilet compact embodied in a container having substantially the appearance and size of a watch case.
Many types of toilet compacts are in general use today and it has been observed that the most objectionable feature found in this large variety of types is the relatively large sizes of the cases used to contain the various articles which go to make up a complete toilet compact.
The purpose of the present invention is to overcome the objectionable feature pointed and at the same time to provide an attractive vanity fine watch and having a plurality of skillfully arranged compartments adapted to contam face powder, rou e, lipstick, per? fume, mirrors and puffs. accomplish this purpose by means of a compact and case of the character, hereinafter fully described and illustratively exemplifiedin the accompanying drawings, in which;
Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved vanity case showing the parts in open and detached positions; Figure 2.is an end elevational view of the case and Figure 3 is a transverse sectional view through the same showing the parts in closed sitions.
Referr' to the drawing, 10 designates a box case b f thin metal material having the general appearance and size of a watch case.
e edge portion 11 which is curved and tapered outwardly towards the axis of the case to provide a bezel 12 on both faces. The openmgs 13 and 14 on opposite faces, respectively, formed by the bezels 12 are provided with covers 15 having spring actuated hinges 16 and similarly operated catches 17 which release either cover by slight pressure of a finger a ainst the exposed portion of the catch. 'l he covers 15 are slightly convex in shape to carry out the rgeneral curve of the 3 bezels 12. Integral wi the inner edges of the bezels 12 and arranged within the body of the case are two inwardly curved rtivirtually the case about the size of a interior portion box comprises a relativelythin annular insi e -rors and the case into three compartments, 20 21, and 22,
the latter thereof being circumscribed by the edge portion 11, bezels 12 il h f h d t a point int e peri hery o t e e ge portion 11, hereinafter referred to as the top of the vanity case,
neck 23 aving a threaded bore 24 in com-' munication with the intermediate chamber 22. This chamber or compartment is intended to contain liquid perfume which is applied by means of a stopper 25. The stopper 25 according to the present invention comprises a tubular stem metal or other suitable material, having an externally threaded ortion 27 adapted tobe adjusted over the tlireads of the bore 24. The u per endof the stem 26 is laterally flange and abuts the end of the neck 23 when the stopper is completely inserted in the chamber. The bore at the inner projecting. end of the tubular stem; 26 is preferablythreaded and receives a tapered. glass or metal appliance 26 which dips into the per-fume and when removed from the case is 26 the bore is rovided with a closure or par tition 28 whic entirely separates the upper of the stem from communication Wlth the per free end of t a bayonet slot 29 ing from the side wall of a ,small metal cap or inverted cup 31 containi mounted lip or eyebrow pencil being arranged in aninclined slot 33 in the side wall of the cup and having a projecting prong to engage with the pencil 32 for purposes of ad ustment. Further appointments of the compact comprise separate mirrors 34, one thereof bein attached or otherwise mounted on the face of both cover members 15, A
e stem 26 is provided with and partitions 18 the material is dispose outwardl in a radial direction to provide a to receive a pin 30 project-j 26, composed ofrfume chamber. The upan adjustably I 32, the pin 30 powder cake 34' is carried by, the face of partition 19 ands-quantity of rouge paste 35 is seated againstthe face of the partition 18, and in each space between the mirpowder and paste, a se arate powder puff 36 is-held as shown in igure An ty of supplorting means may be utilize to ang 01' 0t erwise carry the case and for purposes of illustration I have shown a pair of rings 37 loosely attached to the edge portion 11 at.
opposite sides of the neck 23, the rings being ada ted to receive the end of a neck ribbon or c ain.
From the foregoing, it will be. noted that the present invention contains substantially all of the toilet requisites necessary for a and that each arcomplete facial makeu without disturbticle is readily accessi le ing any other part of the compact. The
- mediate receptacle having a neck portion the indented walls, a sto and opposite indented side walls, covers for per for said neck portion. includin a promotion adapted to extend into the interior of said receptacle, and a pencil member adjustably mounted in the outer end of said sto per.
2. A vanity case, as c aimed in claim -1, in which the inside surfaces of said covers are provided with minors and the opposite faces of the indented walls are provided with powder and rouge cakes, in combina-- tion with a powder pufi enclosed in each compartment having a cover, substantially as described.
3. A vanity case, as claimed in claim 1, in which the covers are hinged to said receptacle at points 0 posite the said neck ortion, and means or holding and releasmg said covers, substantially as described.
4. A vanity case, as claimed in claim 1, in which the receptacle further com rises a watch shaped case having curved ezels disposed on opposite faces thereof, said cover members being hinged to said bezels at points opposite to said neck ortion.
5. A vanity case, as claime in claim 1, in which the sto per comprises a tubular member adjustab le in said neck portion and having a bayonet slot in its upper end, a tapered member adjustable in the opposite end thereof, said pencil including a lipstick holder comprising a cup member rovided with an inclined slot and insertab e in the open end of the tubular member, a lipstick for said holder and a pin engaged with the stick at one en and projecting throu h the inclined slot to be enga ed in the sai bayonet slot at its outer en 9 In testimony whereof, I have signed my name to this specification this 7th day of January, 1924;.
