T 0 all whom it may concern." 7 I Be it known that I, ARRAMFK. BAER. a resident of Baltimore, in the county of Baltimore and State of Maryland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Adjustable Garments, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to garments, and more particularly to a garment, the body lines of which are primarily straight but which may be changed to'a garment having a tight waist-band.

While my invention is equally applicable to garments such as shirts, blouses or waists,

Particularizing, my invention consists essentially in so arranging the bottom of the garment that it may be adjusted to assume various lengths and may furthermore. in one of its adjusted positions be fixed to simulate a waist-band, the size" of which will be sufficiently shortened to fit tightly around the waist of the wearer.

Another feature of importance of my improved garment arrangement, and one that lends materially to the attractiveness of the 7 same, is that the lower portion of the garment in its shortest adjusted position satisfactorily resembles a, waistband, the fastening means being entirely hidden from view. This effect is enhanced by the fact that the length of the simulated waist-band is shortened and fitssnugly about the wear-, ers waist.

previously waists or the like but inthe drawings I have illustrated the same as used in connection with a middy blouse 10, the body portion 11 of which is designed so that its lines are as usual, straight, the bottom portion 12 thereof being practically of the same diameter as the body 11. V I It isin connection with the lower portion of the garment that my improved invention is employed and to this end at each side thereof and to what is normally the inside of the garment, I secure two pair of fasteners 13, spaced apart a suitable distance for a purpose to be more fully hereinafter described, While these fasteners may be of any desired type, I have here shown them as snap fasteners.

InFig. 3 the garment is shown as being worn with the bottom portion 12 thereof unfolded or in other words in the same manner in which middy blouses are generally worn.

The folded portion of the garment is gathered at the sides to which the fasteners'13 are attached so as to reduce the diameter thereof and take up the slack in the garment, and held in this gathered position by the fasteners 13. ,This is clearly'illustrated in Fig. 4: and here it will be seen that the lower portion 12 which has been folded upon the body 11 is gathered so as to bring the two halves of the fasteners 13 together, thus forming a loop or plait 15 at each side of the garment.

, This reduction in the waist-line of the gar ment is sufficient to cause it to snugly fit the waist of the wearer. This gathering of the garment at the waistline th f r Q into the body which is now ofsomewhat a greater diameter than that of the Waist-line.

The plait or loop formed at each side of the garment at the folded portion is not visible because it is coveredby the fold '12- as clearly illustrated in Fig. 1. The folded portion 12 of the garment which now fits snugly around the Waistof the wearer ,simu lates a belt and the appearance of the garment has been changed from that of the straight-lined garment without. a waist-line to a garmentof shorter length with a tight fitting Waist-line.

By folding the vportion 1-2 back upon the body portion 11 of the garment, the garment ous types hereinbefore mentioned I do not W1Sl1 to be limited'to the specific embodiment herein illustrated, but reserve the right to make such changes in the form thereof as may come Within the purview of the accompanying claims.

Having thus described my invention, What I claim is:

1. In an adjustable middy blouse, a body having a bottom portion adapted to be folded to shorten the garment, said folded portion being adapted to be folded vertically at the sides of the garment to shorten the garment circumferentially and pairs of snap fasteners arranged at the lines of vertical folds for retaining the same in folded position.

2. A middy blouse having a bottom portion adapted to be folded to shorten the garment, said folded portion being adapted to be folded vertically at the sides of the garment to shorten the same circumferentially, I

pairs of spaced snap fasteners .secured to. the bottom of the garment on the inside and exposed when said bottom portion is first folded, said fasteners being arranged along the il-ines of vertical folds, the engagement of said fasteners retaining the vertical folds in position.
