This invention relates-to garments andmore particularly to bifurcated -garments; cfor sexample, pajamas- I i l One object of'the-invention is to provide abifur cated garment of :such a construction as to enable the garment to-be formedfiof atminimum number of parts and-atthe same timefto be yieldably stretchable laterally ind the..- portion thereof above the crotch and also-vertically cat the back of the garmentin a direction rextend ing between the crotchiandfthe waistline.
Another object: of J the invention isstoi provide a pajama garment which :maydoeaformed en tirely. of inelastic wovenifabric andswhiche is yieldably stretchable at the waistline. i
A further objectof the .inventiontistgenerally to provide an' improved-bifurcated nethen'garment, particularly-in rrespectito .the simplicity of its construction andxitsscomfort-in use.
The aboveand other .objects, ifeatures .and advantages of this invention .willeberfullyrunderstood from the f ollowi ng" :description, .reference being had to the. accompanying: illustrative drawing. 1 In the drawing: V
Figure 1' is a front view of a garment embodying the present invention; a
Figure 2 is a viewof thezback ofasaidagarment; and i i Figures 3, 4, and 5 are plan views bfTfhe parts of the garment before they are assembled and secured in garment-forming v:relation.
Referring now to the drawing in: detail; the garment here shownas a pair of pajamas comprises two leggsections l 2 formed of the parts illustrated in Figures 3 and 4, and a rear section l4 formed of the part illustrated inFigure 5, all of said sections being preferably formed of woven fabric. Each leg section [2 comprises a part which forms the leg portion of the garment and a portion of the garment above the crotch. Sections I2 are cut on the straight of the goods and are disposed in the garment on the straight leg sections l2 above the crotch extend laterally 2, was;swimmer-511,212" (01.2 83) from seam I6 and the fiy-forming 1portions thereof; respectively; ratowa'rd the back of the garment randc terminatel with the edge :portions l8 of said two leg sections tin+laterally2spaced relations. ASai'd edge :portionsil81extend downwardly'tin'converging relation from the waistline towardrthe crotch and are secured tosthe adjacent: downwardly converging side edges 20 i of mart by the seams 22 which. extend downwardly from-the waistline of the garment to the crotch.v The lower edge 2410f part l4 isstitched. toranupper jportionwofmthe edge 26 ofwthe leg sections 1|2,by atseam 28 which, .in the garment, is disposed along a line extending laterally between the :leg portions of the: garment at the crotch. In Figures 3 and 4, 'thepart'of edge26 of leg section l2 which'is stitched to apart. of the lower edge '24] of part I4 is indicatedas that part of. theedge 26 of the leg section l2 'which extends between the pointsA and B. Each, leg portion of the garment isformed bystitching together the opposite side edges 26 and 30 of the companion. leg section I2 by .the seam 32 which extends from the point B of edge 26 to the bottom .edgeofH-the leg section and from the point C. at the upper end ofwedge 30 of said legsection to. the bottom edge thereof.. The edge portion 32 oiyleg section l2 above'saidpoint C extends upwardly? from the crotch at the front of the garment from a point mid-way of. the seam 28, and lower portions of said edges 32 of the two leg sections; are stitchedttogether at the front of the garment tov form the. seam. l6 below the fly., The parts :offsaid edge portions above saidseamiare separable and areprovided with buttons and button-holes or other separable fasteners in any suitable way. Upper edge portions of sections [2 and part [4 are folded and stitched as indicated at 34, to form a hem. or tube for the usual draw-string 36 by which the waist portion of the pajamas are adjustably secured around the waist of the wearer.
with the yieldable stretchability of said panel longitudinally and laterally of the garment prevents discomfort to the wearer at the crotch. Also, by reason of the yieldable stretchability of the panel or part I4, the part of the, garment above the crotch is yieldability strechable circumferenially of th garment completely therearound. It is to be noted also that by reason of the yieldable stretchability of the upper folded edge portion of part 34 at the waistline of the garment the latter is yieldably stretchable completely around the garment at the waistline, and for this reason it is unnecessary to provide the garment with rubber or other elastic inserts at the waistline. Various other advantageous features of the garment constructed as described above will be apparent to those skilled in the art.
While we have shown and-described a preferred embodiment of our invention, it will be understood that the invention may be'embodied otherwise than as herein specifically illustrated V or described, and that in the illustrated embodiment certain changes may be made and additions provided without departing from the underlying idea of this invention as defined by the scope of the patent claims.
Having thus described our invention and illustrated its use, what we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
1. A garment of the character described comprising two leg sections extending downwardly from the waistlineof the garment and forming the two leg portions, respectively, of the gar ment, theparts of said leg sections which extend from the crotch to the waistline having fly forming portions at the front of the garment and extending laterally from said fly-forming portions, respectively, toward the back of the garment. and terminating in longitudinal edges spaced laterally from each other, and a rear panel extending downwardly from the waistline of the garment to the crotch thereof, said rear panel being formed of woven fabric and disposed on the bias in the garment, said rear panel having longitudinal side edges stitched to the adjacent longitudinal edges, respectively of. said leg sections and having a bottom edge portion stitched to adjacent edge portions of said leg sections, respectively, along a line extending laterally between said leg portions at the crotch of the garment, said rear panel extending from the crotch to the waistline of the garment and forming a substantial part of the waistline of the garment whereby-the latter is resiliently stretchable and contractable at the waistline circumferentially of the garment.
2. A garment of the character described comprising two leg sections each formed in one piece and extending from'the waistline to the lower end of the companion leg portion of the garment,
each of said leg sections having longitudinal side edges which are stitched together for a part of the length of the leg section to form a leg portion of the garment, and a rear panel extending from the waistline of the garment downwardly to the crotch of the garment, said rear panel being formed of woven fabric and disposed on the bias in the garment, said rear panel having opposite side edges stitched to adjacent side edge portions of said leg sections, respectively along lines extending downwardly in converging relation from the waistline to the crotch and a lower edge portion stitched to adjacent edge portions of said leg sections at the crotch along a line extending laterally between the leg portions, said rear panel extending from the crotch to the waistline of thegarment and extending at its upper part substantially the full width of the back of the garment at the waistline of the gar- 'ment whereby the latter is resiliently stretchable and contractable at the waistline circumferentially-of the garment.
3. A garment of the character described comprising two leg sections extending downwardly from the'waistline of the garment and forming the two leg portions, respectively, of the garment, the parts of said leg sections above the crotch extending laterally of the front of the garment side edges thereof and stitched to adjacent edge portions of said leg sections along a line extending laterally of the garment in the region of the crotch, said rear :panel extending from the crotch to the waistline of thegarment and extending at its upper part substantially the full width of the back of thegarment at the waistlin of the garment whereby the latter is resiliently stretchable and contractable at the waistline circumferentially of the garment, said garment; having a fly, andsaid leg sections being stitched together at adjacent edge portions thereof along a line extending from the crotch to the lower end of said fly.
