Description
0. W. BRYAN.
Combined Wall-Pockets and C'Me'ndars. N0.149,'289, PatentedApril7,1874.
\mkm, Nkmsszs,
UNITED STATES PATENT Orrron CLARK W. BRYAN, OF SPRINGFIELD, MASSACHUSETTS.
IMPROVEMENT lN COMBINED WALL-POCKETS AND CALENDARS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 149,289, dated April 7, 1874; application filed 1 January 20, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CLARK W. BRYAN, of Springfield, State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Combined Wall- Pocket and Calendar; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings making a part of this specification, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, in which Figure 1 is a front view of in y invention, and Fig. 2 is a vertical section of the same through line E.
My invention relates to a device for use as a receptacle for postal cards, combined or arranged with a counting-house calendar; and it consists of two stiff, firm, rectangular pieces, one somewhat smaller than the other, with a thin flexible piece of fabric attached to three edges of both the smaller and larger pieces, forming a pocket convenient as a receptacle for postal cards, the front piece of which serves as a backing, to which are attached the sheets of a counting-house calendar.
In the drawings, B represents the larger rectangular piece, which may be of any stiff and firm material, over the edges of which, 011 three sides, are folded the edges of a thin or flexible piece, D, and secured in any suitable manner; and the other edge of said piece D is secured to the edges of the piece 0 on three sides, F, G, and H and to the upper edge of the front piece 0 are secured, by a clip, h, or
other suitable fastening, the sheets 0 of a calendar, each sheet representing one month, and having the days of the week and month printed thereon. These sheets hang loosely, as shown clearly in Fig. 2, so that, as one month expires, the sheet representing that month is torn from the clip at the top and thrown away. The piece B may be hung up at any convenient place, and the pocket formed by the pieces B, D, and C will form a convenient receptacle for postal cards and other articles which it is desired to preserve, and the calendar upon the front will always be in convenient position for reference. The blank space at A 011 the front of the piece B, and the blank spaces on the calendar-sheets, serve as convenient places upon which to print advertisements, and as one sheet is torn off the rest appear clean and white.
I am aware that wall-pockets, so called, have been used, but I am not aware that similar pockets have ever been arranged in connection with calendars; and
Having therefore described my invention, what I claim as new is- As a new article of manufacture, the postalcard pocket herein described, having the calendar-sheets C attached to the front thereof, substantially as set forth.
CLARK W. BRYAN.
