Description

l. H. FITZGIBBON.
Photograph-Mounts.
N0 |48,201- Patented March3,1s74.
. Witnesses Nrrnn STATES JOHN H. FITZGIBBON, OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI.
IMPROVEMENT IN PHOTOGRAPH-MOU NTS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 143,201, dated March 3, 1874; application tiled May 24, 1873.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, J oHN H. FITZGIBBON, of St. Louis, in the county of St. Louis and in the State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Mount for Photographs, Gems, Ferrotypes, and Pictures; and do hereby declare that the following is a full,
'. clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification.
My present invention is intended as an improvement on the Letters Patent No. 131,260, granted to me for picture mounts or lnats 5 and it consists in a ap or cover for the front and back ot' the picture, attached to or made part of the mount without any adhesive material on such cover or `ilap, for the purpose of protecting the picture, when mounted, from inl)ury.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, which represents a perspec tive view of my improved picture mount or mat.
A represents an ordinary mat or mount for gein or other pictures. The back of this mount is either wholly or partially covered with gum, mucilage, or other adhesive material.
By this means the picture can, if so desired, first be stuck to the back of the mount, and then the cover or flap B fastened on to hold the picture in place on the mount, Without the use of any mucilage or any other adhesive material on said cover or flap. This not only saves time and labor, but prevents any liability of spoiling the picture by the gum.
O represents the front ap. The flaps B and C are made of one piece, the mount A being secured at the center of the piece, as shown.
This construction obviates the necessity ot' using any adhesive substance on either the front or back flap, as the picture is secured by the mucilage on the back of the mount, and protected on its back by the flap B, and the front covered by the loose Hap O.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The within-described picture-mount, consisting of the part A, with adhesive substance on its back, and attached at one end to the center of a piece of paper, which forms the back B, and the front liap O, all as shown and described, and for the purpose set forth.
' In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 24th day ot' April, 1873.
