Description

E. A. GALINDO.
FRAMES FOR SHOW-CARDS onrxcwvms. No.182.,312.
Patented Sept. 19,1876.
rlllu/Il/l/Iiilil/ NJETERS. PHOTOLITHOGRAPHER, WASMNGTON, D C,
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE. I
EDWIN A. GALINDO, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN FRAMES FOR SHOW-CARDS OR PICTURES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 182,312, dated September 19, 1876; application filed June 24, 1876.
To all whom it may concern: a i
Be it known that I, EDWIN A. GALINDO, of the city of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented certain Improvements in the Process of Stretching, Backing, and Preserving Show -Oards, Pictures, 860., by the peculiar construction of the frame; and I hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying tion.
To enable those skilled in the art'to construct and use my invention, I will now proceed to describe it.
The drawing represents a perspective view, partly in section, of the corner of a picture or show-card frame.
The frame is provided with a broad flat strip, F, on the backof which the picture or show-card is to be glued, after being properly dampened and stretched. A small rabbet, 12, upon the under side of this strip, at its inter-- nal edge, forms a groove between it and the picture, all around the frame, to receive the extending edge L of a varnishing shield, N, whichmay be used to protect the frame in the process of varnishing the picture.
The frame is also provided with a groove or rabbet, R, upon the inner vertical face,'immediately back of the fiat gluing surface F,
drawing, which forms a part of this specifica around the entire frame, to receive the wooden back B, which is sprung into position (see dotted lines) after the show-card or picture 0 has been firmly glued or otherwise secured to the back of the strip F. The different sectious of the back B are made to lap over each other at their junction, so that they may be extended as they shrink, to keep the back of the picture or show-card always protected from dust.
One advantage of my invention is that I avoid the use of nails or tacks to secure the back B; hence I am not liableto'injure the show-card or picture while in the act of securing the back in place.
What I claim as novel and useful, and wish to protect by Letters Patent of the United States, is-
A show-card or picture frame having a strip, F, with a wide flat gluing-surface upon the under side thereof, and a rabbet or recess, a, in combination with the backing B and groov'eR, the whole constructed and arranged to operate substantially in the manner and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I hereunto subscribe my name in the presence of two witnesses.
