IMPROVEMENTIN COMBINED WALL PCCKETS AND CALENDARS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 149,358, dated April 7, 1874; application filed January 20, 1874.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, JESSE F. TAPLEY, of Springfield, in the State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Combined Wall Pocket and Calendar; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings making a part of this specification, and to the 'letters of reference marked thereon, in which Figure 1 is a front view of my invention. Fig. 2 is a perspective view, and Fig. 3 is a vertical section through line C.

My invention relates to a wall pocket and calendar combined; and it consists of two thick, firm pieces, one somewhat larger than the other, and connected at the sides and bottom by a thin flexible piece forming a pocket, the front piece having a retaining margin or frame, between which and the front piece may be placed detached sheets having the month, day of the week, and day of the month printed thereon, forming a calendar, which sheets may be removed when no longer required, and new printed sheets purchased and inserted without the aid of clips or other metallic fastening devices.

In the drawings, B represents the back of the device, which may be made of any cheap stiff material, such as good pasteboard, over two edges and the bottom of which is folded the edge of a thin flexible material, I), which is properly secured, and the other edge of the piece D is secured to the front piece 0, and to the outside of the front piece is secured the retaining piece or frame 0, with a space all around between the frame 0 and the front piece 0, and into this space may be inserted twelve sheets having the month, year, day of the week, and day of the month printed there on. The first month, January, being on the outside, when that month has expired that sheet may be withdrawn through the front opening, leaving the second sheet, having the arrangement of days for the month of February, exposed to view, and so on.

The cheapest method of manufacturing these devices is as follows: I take a rectangularshaped piece of suitable pasteboard, B, and to its edges attach thin flexible pieces D by their edges. I then take a similar piece of board and cut it nearly in two at the line b, and out out a large rectangular opening in one part at the lines 0 c. I then attach another small flex-piece to the bottom of the back B, and also to the back of the frame 0 at the bottom, and attach the other edges of the flexible pieces D to the back of the frame part c at the sides.

The printed sheets E may then be inserted through the front opening of the frame 0, or be put in when the device is made.

The front of the back piece,-A, the frame 0, and the blank spaces on the printed sheets may have advertisements printed thereon, or may be ornamented, as desired, and a convenient wall pocket and calendar combined is thus obtained. I

By this manner of manufacture the device may be cheaply made, and when once made may be used for any length of time, as new printed sheets may be had and inserted in. place of those removed, and without the use of clips or other metallic fastenings to secure them.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is The combination of the pieces B and D with the front piece 0, provided with the retaining frame 0 to contain the printed sheets E, as herein set forth.
