Description
a. :0. MENTZEL. susrwsom' ATTACHMENT FOR CARDS. No, 172,759. Patented. Jan.25,1876.-
N4 PETERS, PHOT0 UTHOGRAPNER, WASHINGTON. n C.
NITED STATES PATENT OFrIon.
HENRY D. MENTZEL, OF BALTIMORE, MARYLAND.
IMPROVEMENT IN SUSPENSORYATTACHMENTS FOR CARDS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 172,759, dated January 25, 1876; application filed October 12, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY D. MENTZEL, of the city of Baltimore and State of Maryland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Snspensory Attachments for Show-Cards, &c., of which the following is a specification; and I do hereby declare that in the same is contained a full, clear, and exact description of my said invention, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
My invention relates to a suspensory device adapted for ready attachment to show cards, calendars, and the like, as hereinafter described.
In the drawing, forming apart of this specification, Figure l is a front view of the device attached to a card, and Fig. 2 an edge view of the same. Fig.3 is a view of the invention developed.
Similar letters of reference represent similar parts in all the figures.
A is the attachment, consisting of a strip of flexible material, preferably paper, perforated at two points equidistant from the center of the device, and coated on one side with some adhesive substance.
In attaching the device to a card, the prepared side is moistened, and the device bent or duplicated centrally between the perforations. The ends of the device are then placed over the card and closed thereon. The portions of the device above the card are united in the fastening operation, and form a solid projection having therein a single perforation.
This invention is cheaply made from paper, one side of which is covered with a coat of mucilage, and forms a strong suspeusory attachment capable of being ornamented in vanous ways.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of theUnit'ed States, is
As a new article of manufacture, a suspensory attachment for show-cards, 850., consisting of a strip of flexible material perforated at each side of its longitudinal center at equal distances therefrom, and having an extension beyond each perforation, substantially as shown, said strip being adhesive on one side, whereby, in the duplication of the strip over the card, a single suspensory ring is formed of doubled thickness of the material, as specified.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto subscribed my name this 1st dayof October, in the year of our Lord 1875.
HENRY D. MENTZEL. Witnesses:
WM. W. TowsoN, WM. T. HOWARD.
