- O. C." B. KOEHN RUNNING BOARD FOR AUTOMOBILES Filed March 26, 1923 Who I E NVENTOR 4% 4%A 216% ATTORNEY UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
OTTO CHRISTIAN BERNHARDT KOEHN, OF WILLIAMSBURG, IOWA.
RUNNING BOARD FOR AUTO-MOBILES.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, O'r'ro CHRISTIAN BERNHARDT KOEHN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of Williamsburg, county of Iowa, State of Iowa, have invented new and useful Improvements in Running Boards for Automobiles, of which the following is -a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention is an improved running board for automobiles, and the object is to provide a running board which will be self-cleaning, and will also present at all times a non-slippery hold for the feet of the users of the vehicle.
In the drawing:
Figure 1 is a top or plan view of the board.
Figure 2 is a longitudinal, vertical section.
The invention consists of a grill-like structure made of parallel bars 1, with a set of transverse slats 2 mounted between them at each end, and aset of longitudinal slats 3 interposed medially. The medial slats 3 are set vertically edgewise and spaced apart and the end slats'are set angularly from the perpendicular and likewise spaced apart, the upper edges of the two sets of 30 end slats being slanted away from each g'f Application filed March 26, 1923. Serial No 627,882.
other and the lower edges toward each other. This angular arrangement of the end slats prevents the mud being thrown up through the slats.
This board is preferably constructed of aluminum or other non-corrodible material, and may be cast from patterns or built up from sheet metal, as deemed preferable.
While I have herein described a certain specific method of constructing and assem- I bling the elements of my invention, it is understood same may be varied in minor details, not departing from the spirit of my invention as defined in the appended claim.
I claim: I
A running board for automobiles, comprising ;a grill-like structure made up of longitudinal and parallel side bars; a set of slats mounted transversely between the side bars at each end thereof, the slats of each 50 set being spaced apart and the two sets of slats being slanted away from each other at their upper edges; and a set of slats mounted longitudinally between the two sets of end'slats.
OTTO CHRISTIAN BERNI-I'ARD'I' KOI'IIIN.
Witnesses:
JOHN KOEHN, ELMER KOEHN.
