Description

Nov. 11 1924. n
B. M. LINDHE RACK Original Filed May 25 S1923 MI/md/le y y f Patented Nov. 11, 1924.
UNITED STATES BERTI-IIL M. LINDHE, 0F ROGKFORD, ILLINOIS.
RACK.
Application led May 25, 1923,' Serial No, 641,435.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, BERTHIL M. LINDHE, a citizen of -the United States, residing at 307 Bluff St., Rockford, Ill., in the county of Dane and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Rack, of which the followis a specification.
This invention relates to racks and more particularly to racks especially designed for supporting pamphlets, sheets of paper or the like.
The primary object of the invention is to improve the construction as shown in my Patent Number 1,404,778, granted to me January 31, 1922.
Another object of the invention is to provide a base section and a plurality of vsupporting sections, the supporting sections being adjustably mounted on the base adapting the device for use in supporting pamphlets of various sizes.
With the foregoing and other objects in view whichwill appear as the description proceeds, the invention .resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and. in the details of construct-ion'hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, may be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Referring to the drawing:
Figure 1 is an elevational view of a rack constructed in accordance with the present invention. v
Figure 2' is a sectional view taken on line 2-2 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a sectional view taken on line 3-3 of Figure 1.
Referring to the drawing in detail the device includes a base indicated generally by the reference character 6, which has rearwardly and inwardly extended flanges 6 disposed at opposite sides thereof.
The side edges of the base extend inwardly as at 7, where they overlie the base in spaced relation therewith to provide guideways for the adjustable section 8 to be hereinafterl more fully described.
Renewed August 27, 1924.
A portion of the base is formed into opposed fianges 9,which fianges are stamped from the sheet metal forming the base, the ianges being disposed in spaced relation with the base and extended towards each other to provide guideways for the adjustable sectionlO.
This adjustable section 10 includes a body portion 11 having a sheet engaging section 12 which extends at right angles with respect to the base, Which adjustable section having an inwardly extended flan e 13 to contact with the outermost sheet o a pack supported by the rack. y
Opposed legs 14 form a part ofthe section 8 and cooperate with the section 10 to grip the sides of the pack of papers supported by the rack. An outwardly extended member indicated at 15 forms a part of the section 8 and has an inwardly extended flange 16 adapted to engage over the pack of papers.` l
The flanges 6 provide guideways with the underside of the base 5, for the reception of the arms 17, of the adjustable section 18 which operates at right angles to thesections Sand 11 to overlap the lower edge of the pack of papers or pamphlets supported with-` in the rack. As shown, this section18 .is provided with an outwardly extendediange 19 which has an upwardly extended portion 20 as clearly shown by Figure 3 of the drawings.
The reference character 21 designates spaced tongues which are stamped from the sheet metal forming the base, the tongues being disposed substantially centrally of the base, Where the same may properly support the Weight of the rack.
These tongues 21 are designed for positioning in suitable openings in a supporting surface, thereby providing a supporting means which will in no way interfere with the adjustment of the supporting sections of the rack.
What is claimed as new isz- A rack comprising a base formed of sheet metal, rearwardly and inwardly extended fianges formed on the side edges of the base, flanges formed on the upper and lower edges of the base, said anges extending towards my own, I have hereto affixed my signature each other and providing guidelways, Hanges in the presence of two Witnesses. stamped from thebody of the base and providing guideways, and laterally adjustabley BERTHIL M. LINDHE. 5 supporting sections ope-rating in the guide- \'Vitnesses:
