To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THOMAS SHARLow, a citizen of the United States, residing in the borough of Manhattan, city, county, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful lmprovements in Lantern- Slide Carriers, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is to afford a light, substantial non-combustible slide carrier adapted to the requirements of lanterns of standard size and shape, and it consists in the construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and claimed specifically.

The carrier C is composed primarily of a blank of sheet metal, preferably Russia iron, bent over upon itself to form the bottom c, and sides o', c, in which are the slide view openings, o, @,-the sides o', c, being spaced and supported by fillers f, f, j, of incombustible brous material through which the rivets 7', 1, pass, said rivets lr, 7', binding the sides 0', c', and the fillers rigidly together. The end fillers f, f, also at`- ford means for the attachment of the liandles z, it; while the middle filler f', acts not only to stiffen the carrier centrally between the view apertures o, o, but also to limit and centralize the slide apertures s, s, the openings to which are formed by and between the opposed edges o2, c2, of the metal blank. Laterally projectino` shoulders L, h', prevent the withdrawal of the carrier C from the frame A.
The frame A is composed of four blanks of sheet metal, preferably Russia iron, like the carrier. The central space created by the offsets l, l, serves as the channel for the carrier C; and the side members a, a, are formed with the View apertures a', a, coinciding in size and shape with those (o) in the carrier.
The width of the flanges 2, 2, and their caps 4, 4, is equivalent to the thickness of the old form of wooden slide carrier heretofore used in conjunction with lanterns of this class, so that the frame A is adapted for use in lanterns of standard size and make. y
The cap 4 on the underside of the frame A, is formed with end lugs or shoulders 5, 5, which fit over and engagethe supporting ledge on the lens cone and thereby hold the frame in place against longitudinal movement, the frame A being held to its seat by the usual spring pressure against the top thereof. The view openings in both carrier and holder coinciding in size and shape, there is no possibility of light escaping through the holder above or below the carrier. Furthermore the fillers are nonconduotors; and the metal being comparatively thin and affording a relatively large area of surface to the atmosphere, in proportion to its cross section, diffuses heat rapidly and does not become overheated. I thus avoid the use of inftammable material, and attain strength and rigidity combined with lightness of structure.
Vhat I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is,
l. As an article of manufacture, a slide carrier formed of a single piece of sheet metal folded along two parallel lines to constitute parallel side walls, said side walls being formed with coinciding view openings, the metal between the sides thus form-ed constituting the bottom of the carrier, and fillers of non-combustible material inserted and rigidly secured to and between the ends of the carrier side walls, substantially in the manner and for the purpose incide with those in the opposed side wall, a central filler of non-combustible inaterial inserted and rigidly secured to and between the central portions of the side walls and between the View openings on either side thereof, and fillers of non-combustible nia,- terial inserted and rigidly secured to and between the ends of the side walls7 said fillers being arranged to cause the slides to register with said Yiew openings7 substantially in the manner and for the purpose described.
3. As an article of manufacture, a slide carrier formed of a single blank of sheet inetal folded along two parallel lines to constitute parallel side walls, the metal betwten the side walls constitutingl the bottoni of the carrier, the portions of the blank which constitute the side walls being` each formed with two View openings which coincide with those in the opposed side wall,
a central filler of non-combustible material inserted and rigidly' secured to and between the central portions of the side walls, and between the View openings on either side thereof, and illers of non-combustible niaterial inserted and rigidly secured to and between the ends of the side walls, said iillers being` arranged. to cause the slides to register with said View openings, handles attached to the end fillers and lateral shoulders which project beyond the side walls of the carrier and constitute stops which liinit the movements of the carrier within its holder, and prevent its withdrawal therefrom, substantially in the manner and for the purpose described.
