UNiTED STATES L PATENT OFFICE.
DANIEL B. LINCOLN, OF WOLLASTON, MASSACHUSETTS.
BOTTOM-BOARD FOR FOUNDRY-FLASKS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 688,023, dated December 3, '1901.
Application tiled December 14, 1900. Serial No. 39,818. (No model.)
To a/ZZ whom t may concern,.-
Be it known that I, DANIEL B. LINCOLN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Wollaston, in the county of Norfolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented new and useful Improvements in Bottom Boards for Foundry-Flasks, of which the following is a specilication.
The ob ject of this invention is to produce a bottom-board for foundry-flasks which shall be strong, durable, and light in its construction and convenient for handling in foundries.
The invention consists in the combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter set forth and claimed.
Referring to the drawings, Figure l is a perspective view of my improved bottomboard for foundry-flasks. Fig. 2 is a section taken on line 2 2 of Fig. 1.
Like numerals refer to like parts throughout both views of the drawings.
My improved bottom-board consists of a flat plate 5, having a vertical flange 6 turned down around the two sides and ends thereof. Said iianges are joined together at the corners by rivets 7. In order to stiften the plate 5 and also to form a support upon which the iask used in connection with the bottom-board may rest without danger of bending or damaging the flange 6 and also to prevent the flange 6 from being bent or damaged `in handling, I provide two wooden stringers 8 8, fast to the under side of the plate 5, said stringers being parallel to each other and extending downwardly from said plate 5 to below the lower edge of the vertical flange 6. It will be evident that when the flask is placed upon the upper surface of the plate 5 the stringers 8 8 will form a support therefor, which will prevent the plate 5 from bending and buckling, and also that as said stringers extend below the lower edge of the vertical flange 6 they will act as a means for protecting said i'lange from injury either from the weight of the flask upon the plate 5 or in handling, as hereinbefore set forth.
The stringers 8 8 are set in toward the center from the iiange 6 on two sides, Fig. 1, and it will be seen that in addition to forming a support and preventing the said iiange from being injured they also constitute a means whereby said bottom-board, together with a flask thereon, may be picked up in order to carry the same from one place to another, as said stringers hold the iangc 6 at. a distance from the floor or ground, so that the fingers may be inserted beneath the same and the bottom-board, together with the flask, raised from the ground and transported to any desired location.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire by Letters Patent to secure, is'
l. A bottom-board for foundry-flasks comprising a plate of sheet metal having a vertical fiange integral with said plate extending around the outer edge thereof, said flanges joined together by rivets at each corner of said plate, and stringers fast to the under side of said plate at a distance from two parallel sides of said flange and extending downwardly below the lower edge of said flange.
2. Abottom-board for foundry-liasks comprising a plate of sheet metal having a. vertical iiange integral with said plate extending around the outer edge thereof,saidi'1anges joined together by rivets at each corner of said plate and stringers fast to the under side of said plate and extending downwardly below the lower edge of said flange for supporting the same and for holding said Iiange out of contact with the floor upon which said bottom-board, as a whole, is supported.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto Set my name in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
DANIEL B. LINCOLN.
