W. MAY
WASHING BOARD Filed July 13 Patented Apr. 8, 1924.
PATENT:
WILLIAM MAY, OF FOREST GATE, LONDON, ENGLAND.
WASHING BOARD.
Application filed July 13,
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, WILLIAM MAY, a subject of the King of England, residing at 63 Rutland Road, Forest Gate, in the county 5 of London, Kingdom of England, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in or Relating to Washing Boards, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to washing boards and has for its chief object to provide an improved construction of board of this character, the component parts of which can be readily assembled and maintained in position without the liability of their com- 1 ing apart.
According to this invention, the improved washing board comprises independent metallic tubular side members of substantially rectangular formation in cross section, each of the said members being so adapted at the inner face thereof as to provide spaced flanges, vertically spaced transverse wooden members extending between the side members and having oppositely disposed saw. cuts or the like engaged by the said flanges, and longitudinal pieces of wood at the lower portions of the tubular side members, the said pieces having saw cuts or the like engaged by the said flanges. A top piece is secured to the uppermost transverse member and extends laterally at the front and rear edges thereof beyond the operative faces of the board to provide against splash- In order that the said invention may be clearly understood and readily carried into effect the same will now be described more fully, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a front elevation of a washing board embodying the invention,
Figure 2 is a cross section taken on the line m-m of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a fragmental perspective view of the upper part of the board, showing the component parts separated for the purpose of illustrating the same more clearly, and
Figure 4 but showing Referring to the drawings,
is a'similar view to Figure 3 the lower component parts.
0: denotes the 1923. Serial No. 651,318.
tubular side members of the board, the said tubular side members each being of rectangular formation in cross section having the inner upright face thereof so adapted as to provide opposed inturned spaced flanges b. Extending between the side members a are wooden cross bars a of circular form in cross section, the said cross bars being spaced vertically from one another by interposed strips d of wood or other material located within the tubular side members a, the said cross bars being also provided near the ends thereof with oppositely disposed saw cuts 6 or the like adapted to be engaged by the spaced flanges b on the side members. Above the uppermost cross bar 0, and below the lowermost cross bar 0, are provided other wooden cross bars 7 and g, respectively, of substantially rectangular form in cross section and substantially of a thickness equal to the diameter of the cross bars 0, the said cross bars f and 9 being also provided near the ends thereof with saw cuts f and g or the like, which are engaged by the said flanges b. As shown, the lower portions of the tubular side members a are provided with pieces h of wood to provide against the ends of the said members a coming into contact with a bath or the like in which the board may be situated when in use, the said pieces h having saw cuts 72. or the like engaged by the flanges b of the side members a, and the upper ends of the said pieces h abutting against the lower end of the cross bar 9. Nails 2', screws, rivets or the like are shown inserted at the upper and lower parts of the side members a to secure the component parts together. Preferably, the upper end of the board is provided with a top piece 3' of substantially rectangular formation in plan secured by means of screws 70 to the cross bar 7, the said top piece extending laterally at the front and rear edges thereof beyond the operative faces of the board to provide against splashing when the board is in use.
What I claim is:-
A washing board, comprising independent metallic tubular side members of sub stantially rectangular formation in cross below the lower portions of the tubular side members, the said pieces having kerfs engaged by the said flanges. 10
In testimony whereof I have hereunto signed my name.
WILLIAM MA Y.
