A. GREEN y PAPER DISH BLANK features,
Patented Dec. 4, 1923.
UNITED STATES WILLIA ANSLEY GREEN, OF TORONTO, ONTARIO, CANADA, ASSIGNOR TO BAIUEL 3'.,
PATENT OFFICE.,
MOORE, OF TORONTO, ONTARIO, CANADA.
'PAPER msn BLANK.
Application led July 23, 1920. Serial No. 898,482.
To all whomv it may camera.'
Be it known that I, WILLIAM A. GREEN, a subject of Great Britain, residing at 'loronto, in the Province of Ontario and Dominion of Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Paper Dish Blanks, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, such as will enable others skilled inthe art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
Thisinvention relates to paper dishes and the like, and with respect to its more specific to a resilient paper blank adapted `to be readily folded and to form an elongated paper dish suitable for reception of ice cream and the like'.
The object of the invention is the provision of a practical and efficient elongated paper dish blank which shall be convenient and sanitary and ma be made at a small cost, and may be rea ily folded from a flat condition intodish form. l'
Other objects will be in` part obvious and in artpointed out hereinafter.
he invention accordingly consists in the features of construction, combinations of elements and arrangement of parts which will be exemplified in the construction. herein crease after set forth, and the scope of the ap lication of which will be indicated in the ollowin claims.
In tie accompanying drawin forming a part of this specification, and w erein similar reference characters refer to similar vparts throu hout the several views,
Figure 1A 1s a plan view of a flat blank enibodying the invention; and
Fig. 2 is a plan view of the blank as folded to rovide the receptacle, or dish. v
he numeral 1 indicates a paper dish blank composed of paper of some resiliency and which may be parained to render it moisture-proof. As illustrated, the blank is of an elongated shape .with generally rounded ends, such, for instance, as would be provided by a generally elliptical sheet.'
-The o posite ends -2 and 3 of the'blank are on lines diver ing from a point within the edge of the lank, so that at each end the creases extend from the edge ofthe blank on lines to intersect diilerent points on the longitudinal central line or ma]or diameter of the blank. .The angularly related creases are indicated at 4 and 5 at each end vin a limiting sense.
of the blank, the creases at one end of the blank meeting at the point 6 and those of the other meeting at the point 7, these points being spaced apart longitudinally of the blank and lying substantially on the central longitudina line as ex lained. Each side, 8 and 9, of the blank has a pair of transversely disposed shoulders i0 and l1 preferably formed by recessing the side edges of the blank. At the opposite ends of the blank, on the central longitudinal line or ma'or diameter, are the notches 12.
n use a pile of blanks, each in flat condition as illustrated in Fig. l, is utilized, and
one of the blanks of the pile removed and its opposite ends folded on the creased lines so as to produce an eiongated dish in the form of a round bottomed shallow trough terminating in end walls formed b the folded ends 2 and 3, as illustrated in ig. 2. This dish is placed in a suitable elongated holder, and the holder may have pins or lugs adapted to be engaged by the shoulders 10 and 11 to restrain the blank from accidental longitudinal displacement in the holder. The lugs on tendin parts lying above the surface of the folded springing .upwardly in the holder and thereby unfolding.
Thus by t ie above-described construction are accomplished, among others, the objects liereinbefore referred to.
As many changes could be made in the above construction and many apparently widely different embodiments of this invenltion could be m-ade wit-hout departing from the scope thereof, it 'is intendedthat allv matter contained in the above description or shown in the accompanyin drawings shall be interpreted as illustrative and not It is also to be understood `that the langua e used in the following claims is inten ed to cover all of the generic and specifc features of the invention 'herein described and all statements of the scope of the invention, which, asa matter of language, mivht be said to falltherebetween.
aving described niy invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A paper ldish includin an elongated the holder may have inwardly ex' lank so Aas to prevent the blank from sheetwith generally roun ed ends and v creased at opposite ends onY lines diverging from points Within the edge to the rounded ed e of the sheet, said points being spaced apart on a substantially central longitudinal line of the sheet.
2. A dish including a paper sheet with rounded ends, each end having a folded portion terminating substantially on the center line of the sheet and. such foldsbeing spaced apart.
3. A paper dish bla-nk including an elongated sheet with generallyrounded ends creased, at opposite ends, on lines divergin from a point Within the edge to the iounde edge of the blank, said points' being spaced apart on, substantially, the central longitudinal line of the blank, each side of the blank having a. pair of transversely disposed shoulders.
4. A dish blank including a flat sheet of resilient material having angularly disposed adjoining creases arranged at a plurality of places in said sheet and terminating on the major axis of the sheet, said creases adaptin the sheet to be folded into a plurality o flat folds tovprovide a dish cavityl therein, each fold beng independent of any other fold, and lying substantially in line with and forming a continuation of the un- 6. A paper dish blank including a sheetV creased from a point within the edge to the edge ofthe sheet, each side ot the sheet having a pair of transversely disposed shoulders for engagement by a holder.
7. A dish blank including an elongated paper sheet )Vith rounded ends, each. end hav- 1n a fold indication for a single fold ternnnating substantially on the center line of the sheet and such indications being spaced apart.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature, in the presence of two Witnesses.
