Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HARRIET D. AMBLER, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK, ASSIGNOR TO AUGUSTINE IV. DABY, OF NEW YORK CITY.
IMPROVEMENT IN CHILDRENS CARRIAGES.
Specification forming It'llt of Letters Patent No. 147,354, dated February 10, 1874; application filed January 2, 1874. i
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HARRIET D. AnBLEn, of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Holdin g-Strap for Childrens Carriages and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable those skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming part of this specification, in which drawing Figure 1 represents a side view of, this invention. Fig. 2 is a plan or top view of the same.
This invention consists in the combination of a waistband with the ordinary guard-strap ot' a childs carriage, being secured to the guard-strap at the middle of its length, said waistband being provided with suit-able fastenings at its ends, in such a manner that, when the child is placed in the seat of the carriage, and the guard-strap is secured in its ordinary position, the waistband can be conveniently passed round the body of the child and secured behind, and by these means the child is absolutely prevented from falling out of the seat.
In the drawing, the letter A designates a guard-strap of that class which is generally used for childrens carriages, said guard-strap being provided at its ends with buckles a, or other suitable fa-stenings, so that it can be conveniently secured in eyes fastened in the sides of the seat 13, as shown in the drawin Vith this guard strap I have combined a waistband, C, which is firmly fastened to the guardstrap at about the middle of its length, and the ends 0 c of which are provided with buckles c, or other suitable fastenin gs, so that the same can be secured to the seat B, as shown.
B y means of this waistband and guard-strap combined, a child occupying the seat can be secured in its position, and the usual danger of the child being thrown out of the seatis avoided. I
The ends of the waistband can be fastened to the seat in any desirable manner; and, it the waistband is made sufficiently wide, it also serves as a support for the child, to enable the same to situpright.
It is obvious that my holding-strap can be niadein various forms but in all cases it requires two or more ends combined with the waistband, so that this waistband can be fast ened to the seat, as shown.
\Vhat I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
As a new article of inanufactin'e, a holdingstrap for childrens carriages, constructed of a waistband, G, with two or more ends, 0 a, which serve to fasten the same to the seat, substantially as shown and described.
HARRIET I). AllflIBLER.
