Description
W. F. BARBER. 7 Childs Chair.
Patented Mai.
N-PH'ERS. BDIOTD-IJTHQGRAPHDI, WASIZIKG'VON. B4 c- I UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM F. BARBER, OF CLAY CENTRE, KANSAS.
CHILDS CHAIR.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 225,548, dated March 16, 1880,
Application filed July 10, 1879. I
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, WILLIAM'F. BARBER, of Clay Centre, in the county of Clay and State of Kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Childrens Chairs or Seats; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it-appertains to make and use the same, referencebeing had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification, and in which Figure 1 is aperspective view of the seat attached to an ordinary chair. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same; and Fig. 3 is a plan or top view of the seat detached from the chair and folded for storage or transportation.
Similar letters of reference indicate corre sponding parts in all the figures.
The object of my invention is to construct a seat for children that may be easily. attached to the back of an ordinary chair, thus forming a high chair, and which, when not in use,may be as easily detached and stored away.
It consists in the combination, with a plain or upholstered seat, of straps provided with buckles or similar fastening attachments and detachable braces, substantially as hereinafter more fully set forth. a
In the drawings, A is the seat. To the rear side of this is secured, at each corner, a short leather strap, B B, having buckles b b. Two longer straps, O O, are secured to the two front corners of the seat and united to the rear straps, B B, at a a, by means of the buckles b b.
In each side of the seat A is a mortise or recess, 0 0, into which fit the ends of the braces D D, the tops of which are secured to the under side of the straps O G, as shown in the drawings.
To use the seat the perforated ends of the long front straps, C G, are slipped around the upper cross-piece of the hack of the chair and buckled to the rear straps, B B, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the braces D D being inserted into their holes 0 c, and the rear edge of the seat impinging upon the back of the chair so as to project forward therefrom in a horizontal position. When not in use it may be unbuckled from the chair and folded as shown in Fig. 3, when it occupies but very little space.
Having thus described my invention, I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States- A childs seat or chair consisting of the seat A, provided with sockets 0 c, straps B B G 0, provided with suitable fastening devices, and braces D D, combined and arranged to adapt the seat to be attached to the back of an ordinary chair, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto affixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
WILLIAM F. BARBER.
Witnesses J. T. PURCELL, It. M. FRAZIER.
