Rocking Horses. "0.15.2,474. Patented Julie 30,1874.
WITNESSES INVENTOR J WWW" ZZZZZ, BY
ATTORNEYS UNITED STATES WILLIAM IJEMERY, OF WILMINGTON, DELAWARE.
IMPROVEMENT IN ROCKING-HORSES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 152,474, dated June 30, 1874; application filed May- 2, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, II ILLIAM I. EMERY, of Wilmington, in the county of New Castle and State of Delaware, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Ohilds Rockers 5 and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure l of the drawing is a representation of a vertical longitudinal section of my invention. Fig. 2 is a top view of the same.
This invention has relation to childrens rockers; and it consists in the construction and novel arrangement, in connection with parallel side pieces or boards, to which the rockers are attached, of horizontally-adjustable seat-boards and a vertically adjustable foot-rest, as hereinafter more fully described. The object of this invention is to provide a rocker capable of being adapted to the use of children of any age or size.
In the accompanying drawings, A A designate the side pieces, which may be of any suitable form, and are arranged parallel with each other, being secured in this position by a front brace, 12, two middle braces, c, and two braces, (1, between the rockers B, which are attached to said side pieces. The front brace 1) serves conveniently as a guard and as a handle, whereby the little occupant may operate the rocker, throwing its weight forward without falling out. The middle braces c are transversely located under the seat-boards, and are provided with set-screws 0, whereby the position of said boards may be fixed after adjustment. The seat is preferably made in two parts, one sliding over the other, and each portion being provided with tongues or lugs at lts edges to engage with horizontal grooves kin the side pieces. To the rear portion Zof the seat 0 is attached the back m, corner pieces a being inserted between the seat and back to strengthen the connection. The front portion m is designed to slide under the rear portion or seat proper out of the way, or to be drawn out forward to any desired distance most con venient for the child. If unable to sit up the front extension is drawn out to its full length,
and the rocker becomes a cradle, in which the child or infant may be laid. D indicates the vertically-adjustable foot-rest. For its support each rocker is provided with a standard or standards, v, with which are connected, by means of suitable clamp-screws a, slotted bars or cars w, extending downward from the footboard. By the proper adjustment of this rest, and of the front extension of the seat with relation thereto, and to the handleb, the rocker is readily adapted to the use of a child of any age.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A childs rocker having a horizontallyadjustable seat and a vertically-adjustable footrest, substantially as specified.
2. The combination, with the parallel side rockers A A, of the seat-sections l m, sliding one above the other, substantially as specified.
3. The combination, with a childs rocker, of the vertically-adjustable foot-rest D, substalr tially as specified.
4. The combination, with the parallel side rockers A A, of the extensible seat 0, adapted to form a cradle, substantially as specified.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
WILLIAM I. EMERY.
