Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that l, Bnsstn-Vv'. Di: (A3113 a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, county of Cook, and State of Illinois, have invented a certain new and useful Childs-Chair Safety Device, of which the following is a specification.

lily invention relates to a childs chair safety device, and more particularly to a means for preventing a child from falling out of a chair, and has for its object to provide a simple and inexpensive device of this character that shall be eilicient and convenient in use.

A further object of my invention is to provide a device as above mentioned that may be adapted for use in retaining a child in a go-cart or carriage.

Other objects will appear hereinafter.

\Vith these objects in view my invention consists in the novel construction and arrangement of parts all as will be hereinafter fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claim.

My invention will be more readily understood by reference to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, and in which,

Referring now to the drawings 1 designates an ordinary childs highchair and 2 my safety device attached thereto, as shown The device 2 1s shown attached in Fig. 1. to the back panel 3 of the chair, but it may be attached with equal facility to a chair provided with rungs in the back thereof.

The safety device comprises a buckle strap 4 adapted to encircle the childs waist and to be buckled thereto and a buckle strap 5 secured to a cent -al portion of the strap 4: by means of rivets 5 and extending rearwardly therefrom, the ends of the strap 5 being free and adapted to embrace the panel 3 to which the latter is buckled. The panel 3 is preterably provided with recesses in its edges at about the height of a childs waist arranged to receive strap 5, so as to definitely locate the position of said strap when fastened. As shown in Fig. 2 the riveted portions of the straps 4- and 5 are contiguous and parallel, and are riveted together for a considerable distance, thus preventing one strap "from turning on the other and each strap thus tending to hold the other in correct position.

It is clear that the buckled to a childs waist and secured to the back of the chair by means of the strap 5 would prevent the child from falling out of the chair if the waist strap could not be forced upwardly by the chixl. This, how'- ever, could be done unless the strap 5 was buckled very tightly about the childs waist, and to prevent this possible upward movement of said strap, side straps 6 and 7 secured to the strap t by means of rivets (3 are provided which are adapted to pass an der the seat of the chair and to be secured in this position by means of a buckle 8 pro vidcd on the strap 6. The straps G and 7 are spaced at equal distances from the central portion of the strap 4 to which the strap 5 is riveted, and the straps (5 and 7 are disposed perpendicular to the strap 5 and depend therefrom.

This safety device may be attached loosely to a child and yet be a positive'ineans for preventing it from falling out of the chair.

In using this device for retaining a child in a carriage the strap 5 may be folded and the straps i, (i and 7 used only, the latter straps being adapted to pass under the cal riagc and to be secured thereto in the same manner as said straps are secured to a chair seat. 9 and 10 designate the buckles of the straps 4t and 5 respectively.

Vhile I have shown what I deem to be the preferable form of my childs chair safety device, there might be slight. modifications thereof which would be com 'irehended within the scope of my invention.

Having described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

in a device of the class described, the combination of a childs high chair, a central back panel having recesses in its edges at bout the height of a childs waist, a buckle strap adapted to embrace said back panel and engage said recesses, a waist buckle strap riveted at its rear central portion to 'aist strap 4 when said buckle strap, and side sttaps seeured'to I name to this specification in the presence of said Waist strap and extending downwardly two subseribing Witnesses. therefrom and under the ehalr sent, one of 1 1 w 3 said straps being provided with a buckle to 'BESSHL DE 0AM} 5 receive the end of the other, substantially as end for the purposes set forth.
