Description

L. HULL. w Chandeliers.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE- 4LIVEEUS HULL, OF CHARLESTOWN, ASSIGNOR TO THE TUCKER MANUFAC- TUBING COMPANY, OF BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS.
IMPROVEMENT IN CHANDELIERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 146,455, dated January 13, 1874 application led December 12, 1873.
To all whom it may concer-n:
Be it known that I, LrvERUs HULL, of Charlestown, of the county of Middlesex and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Chandeliers; and do hereby declare the same to be fully described in the following specification and represented in the accompanying drawings, of which- Figure l is a side elevation of a chandelier provided with my invention. Fig. 2 is a side view of one of its burner or lamp arms. Figs. 3 and 4 are top views of the upper and lower socketed pieces of the arms.
The object of my invention is to obtain a chandelier cheap in cost, and capable of being readily taken apart or put together, whether for transportation, sale, or use. In carrying out the said invention, l form or construct the hanger with clamp-screws and two socketed arm supporters or plates, and each of the arms or brackets with pyramidal and round and ynotched tenons, all being essentiallyvv as hercinafter explained, and as represented.
In the drawings, A denotes the chandelier body or hanger, provided with -the two socketed plates or pieces B C, arranged as shown. The upper, B, of said pieceshas made through it, and at equal distances apart, a series of circular-apertures, ac, each of which is furnished `with a clamp-screw, b. The other piece or plate, C, has a series of square or pyramidal holes or sockets, b b, made through it, they corresponding in number with, and being situated, respectively, beneath, the apertures a a. Each arm D is separable from the han ger A,and is provided with a pyramidal tenon, c, to correspond with and enter one of the sockets b; and, furthermore, such arm has a round projection, d, to extend up from it through the hole a, which is directly over such socket b, all being substantially as represented. Furthermore, the projection d has an angular notch, f, made in it, as shown, the lower inclined side of which is for the end of the clamp-screw to abut against, such slide serving to prevent the arm from rising, or being accidentally thrown out of its supporting-socket. j
The tenon, by being tapering, will adjust itself closely to the socket, and in consequence, being pyramidal, will prevent the arm from accidentally turning around in the hanger when the two are arranged together, as shown in Fig. l.
The above-described construction of the hanger and each of its arms renders them easily either sepa-rated or connected, asocca-` sion may require.
I do not claim a bracket separateA from the hanger of a chandelier; nor do I claim the mode of applyingthe two, as shown in the United States Patent No. 134,585.
I claim- The hanger A, provided with the clampscrews b, and the two plates B C, socketed as described, in combination witheach of the arms D, having a pyramidal tenon, o, and a notched projection, d, arranged with it, and for use with such socketed plates and clam p-screw, all
`being as set forth and represented.
LIVERUS HULL.
