To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, JOHN NIcKoLUs TANoK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Pipestone, in the county of Pipestone and State of Minnesota, have invented a new and useful Milking-Stool, of which the following is 'a specification.

The invention relates to improvements in milking-stools. p

The object of the present invention is to improve the construction of milking-stools and to provide a simple and inexpensive one of great strength and durability adapted to be I compactly folded when not in use and capable when in use of forminga support for the milkpail. I Afurther object of the invention is to provide a milking-stool of this character in which the front legs 'of the stool will be arranged to hold a milk-pail against lateral movement .to obviate the necessity of positively clamp ing a milk-pail or other receptacle to the milking-stool. I

With these and other objects in view the invention consists in the construction and novel combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, andpointed out in the claims hereto appended, it being understood that various changes in the form, proportion, size, and minor details of construction within the scope of the claims may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or sacrific-' ing any of the advantages of the invention.

In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective View of a milking-stool constructed in accordance with this invention and shown arranged for use. Fig. 2 is avertical sectional view of the same, the milk-pail being shown in dotted lines. Fig. 3 is a reverse plan view, the parts beingfolded.

The rear legs 5 of the milking-stool are also connected at their upper ends with the side bars 2 of the seat 1 by means of suitable pivots .6, which may consist of bolts, rivets, or any other suitable fastening devices, The pivots 7 of the front legs are located at the front ends of the side bars 2,-and thefront and rear legs are also connected by pivots 8 and 9 to lower parallel bars 10, which are extended in advance of the front legs, the extended portions 11 being adapted to support a milk-pail or other receptacle. The front or outer ends of the lower side bars are provided with notches or grooves 11, adapted to receive the chime of a receptacle when the same is so constructed, and the said grooves will interlock the receptacle with the milkingstool and hold the former against outward movement. The front legs are braced by a transverse bar 14:, located beneath the lower side bars 10 and arranged at the rear edges or faces of the front legs. The rear legs are braced by crossed diagonally-disposed bars 15, secured to the rear edges of the legs 5 and extending from the top of one leg to the bottom of the opposite leg. These braces or bars 14 and 15 are adapted to lie beneath the side bars 10 when the milking-stool is folded. In folding the lower ends with notchesor recesses 18, 10-,

The locking-bars are adapted. to be readily swungupward out of engagement with the reduced ends of the projecting portions or pins20 of the front legs to permit the parts to fold, andwhen they are in engagement with the said projections the milking-stool is firmly held in operative position. Having thus fully described my invention, what-I claim as new, and desire tosecure by Letters'Patent, is o 1. Ad vice of the class described,comprising a seat provided at oppositesides with extensions, front and rear legs pivotally connectedwith the seat, the front legs beingoffset frornthe; frontof the seat bythe said extensions, side .bars' pivotally connected, with the lower portions of the legs and extended in advance of the front legs and provided at their-frontportions with means for. supportinga receptacle, the latter being adapted to be arranged between the front legs, and means for locking the parts in position for use.

2, A device of the class described, comprising a seat, upper side bars extending in advance of the seat, front and rear legs pivoted to the upper side bars, the front legs being offset from the front of the seat by the said bars, lower side bars connecting the legs and pivoted to the same and provided with front extensions, bars connecting the extensions of the lower side bars and forming a support for a receptacle, and means for locking the legs rigid with the seat.

3. A device of the class described, comprising a seat, front and rear legs pivotally connected to the seat, a pail-receiving platform or support pivotally connecting the front and rear legs and extending in advance of the same, and an inclined locking-bar pivotally connected at its upper end with the seat and detachably interlocked at its lower portion with one of the legs of the milking-stool.

A device of the class described, comprising a seat, front and rear legs pivotally connected with the seat,a lower pail-receiving platform or support pivotally connecting the leg and extending in advance of the same, a stud or pin extending horizontally from the front leg and having a reduced portion, and an inclined locking-bar pivotally connected at its upper. end with the seat and provided at its lowerportion witha recess arranged to receive the reduced portion of the pin or projection.

5. A device of the class described, comprising a seat, pivoted front and rear legs, side bars connectingthe legs and extending in advance of the. front legs and providedwith grooves adapted to receive the chime of a receptacle, bars secured to the upper edges of the side bars and forming a support for a receptacle, and means for holding the pivoted legs rigid with the seat.
