To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, ROBERT L. WEDDrNe- TON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Hugo, in the county of Choctaw, Indian Territory, have invented a new and useful Attachment to Stoves, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to stoves, and has for its object to provide a simply-constructed device for receiving the ashes, cinders, and other material which may accidentally fall therefrom and prevent it from reaching the floor or floor-covering beneath the stove.

With these and other objects in view, which will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in certain novel features of construction, as hereinafter fully described and claimed.

In the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, and in which corresponding parts are denoted by like designating characters, is illustrated the preferred form of embodiment of the invention capable of carrying the same into practical operation, it being understood that the invention is not necessarily limited thereto, as various changes in the shape, proportion, and general assemblage of the parts may be resorted to without departing from the principle of the invention or sacrificing any of its advantages.

In the drawings thus employed, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a stove with the improved device attached thereto. Fig. 2 is a front View of a portion of the stove, illustrating the manner of attaching the device thereto. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the improved device detached.

The improved device may be attached by making slight and immaterial modifications therein to the various makes of stoves having draft-apertures in the side or end walls, but is more particularly applicable to the class of stoves known as air-tight stoves, and for the purpose of illustration is shown applied to a stove of this class, the body of the stove being usually elliptical in transverse section and with the fuel-inlet 11 and the smoke-flue 12 in the top and the draft-apertures 13 in one end of the body portion near the bottom 14. In stoves of this class the ashes, cinders, live coals, and other similar material is very liable to fall through the draft-apertures when the latter are uncovered, and to prevent such material falling to stove is the object of the present invention, which consists of a receptacle 15, curved to conform to the body of the stove and disposed beneath the draft-apertures and detachably supported in that position to receive the ashes and other matter falling through the draft-apertures.

Attached to the under surface of the stovebody opposite the draft-apertures are spaced guide members 16 1 7, and attached to the receptacle is a plate 18 for slidably engaging the guide members, and thus support the receptacle detachably in position. By this simple means any ashes, cinders, live coals, or other matter falling through the draft-apertures will be received in thereceptacle 15 and prevented from falling to the fioor or upon the floor-covering, and when the receptacle becomes filled with this material it can be easily removed and the contents discharged and the receptacle replaced in position.

The face of the receptacle can be of any fanciful form to conform to the remainder of the stove, and thus be an attractive addition thereto.

The device can be inexpensively manufactured and may be attached to the stove Without structural change in the latter, as will be obvious.

Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is 1. A11 air-tight wood-burning stove having a draft-opening in its upright wall adjacent the bottom thereof, a seat provided upon the bottom of the stove beneath the draft-opening and open at its outer end, and an ash-receptacle having a lateral extension detachably engaged with the seat to support the receptacle in position to receive discharges of ashes from the draft-opening.
