Description

Julyv 24, 1923 G. ANDERSEN CLIP Filed April 17 1922 Patented duly 24, i923.
raranr GAMMEL ANDEBSEN. 0F AUSTIN, TEXAS.
CLIP.
Application lled April 17, 1922. Serial No. 554,165.
To all 'whom it may coc/wem.'
Be it known that I, GAMMEL iiNnnRsnN, citizen of the United States, residing at Austin, in the county of Travis and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Clip, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in a clip.
@ne object ofthe invention is to provide a clip of the character described adapted to be carried by ay fountain pen, or pencil, and provided for the purpose of securing the article to which it is attached to the fabric of the pocket wherein said article is carried.
Another object of the invention is to provide a clip of the character described, which may be easily released from said fabric, when it is desired to remove the pen or pencil from the pocket of the garment in which it is carried.
llVith the above and other objects in view the invention has particular relation to certain novel features of construction and use, an example of which is given in this specification and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure l shows a side view of the clip in engaging position.
'Figure 2 shows a side view thereof in re leased position and,
Figure 3 shows a plan view thereof.
In the drawings the numeral 1 designates the cap of a fountain pen to which the clip is secured. This clip is formed of one piece of spring material such as spring brass, silver, or other suitable material. One end of the clip is secured in the usual and customary way to the cap l. A section 2 of the clip extends out at substantially right angles to the article to which it is attached and then is bent into substantially parallel relation with said article, said parallel sec tion being indicated by the numeral 3. The free end of the piece of material is then bent under said parallel portion and for a distance lies closely adjacent thereto, and it is then turned outwardly forming a shoulder 4, andbeyond the shoulder it exten'ds straight, in inclined relation to the section 3, and the extreme free end is curved outwardly forming an engaging catch 5 adapted to engage with the material 6 of the pocket of the garment. A clip is shown in engaging position in Figure 2, with the catch 5 biting into the fabric. When it is desired to remove the pen the free end 7 of the clip is depressed, as shown in Figure 2 and the shoulder lwill operate as a fulcrum and the catch 5 will be disengaged from the fabric and the pen may then be easily removed.
What I claim is l. A clip formed of a single piece of spring material one end of which is formed for attachment to a pen or pencil, a section of said material being bent at right angles to the attached end and the free end of said piece of material being bent back under said bent over section and being formed with a shoulder and an engaging catch beyond said shoulder, which 'points toward said pen or pencil.
.2. A clip for pens and the like, said clip being formed of a single piece of spring metal one end of which is formed to be attached to the pen and extending at approximately right angles thereto, a section of the piece of metal being bent over into substantially parallel relation with said pen and the free end thereof being turned under and formed with a shoulder which projects toward the pen and forms a fulcrum and said free end beyond said shoulder being formed into an engaging catch which points toward said pen.
A clip for pens and the like formed of a single piece cf metal bent at substantially a right angle` one end of said piece being formed for attachment to a pen or similar article, and the other end of said piece being doubled back on itself the doubled baci; portion being formed with a shoulder forming a fulcruin, and its free end being outwardly turned forming a catch.
il.. A clip for pons and the like formed of a single piece of metal bent at substantially a right angle, one end of the clip being adapted to be secured to the pen and a section of the other end lying substantially parallel with said pen, the free end of said parallel section being bent under and for a portion of the way lying closely adjacent the parallel section and being then bent outwardly from said parallel section forining a shoulder which provides a fulcrum,
fill
the free end beyond said shoulder lying approximately parallel with said parallel seoton and terminating in an overturned catch two subscribing Witnesses.
which points toward said pen, said ulorum GAMMEL ANDERSEN. 5 operating to move said catch outwardly Witnesses:
from the pen when the free portion of said lV. C. HEAN,
In'testmony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of clip is forced inwardly toward the pen. A. P. SNIFT.
