STOVE COVER.
Application filed September 20, 1921. Serial No. 5013M.
and State of Minnesota, have invented cer tain new and useful Improvements in Steve Covers of which the following is a specifir cation.
This invention relates to attachments for oil and gas stoves and more particularly to covers therefor.
The object of the invention is to provide a cover of this character which performs the double function of a protector for the walls when cooking and for the stove when the latter is not in use.
Anotherobject is to provide a cover of this character constructed so that when closed it will completely encompass the stove top and be held out of contact with the burner grate protecting them from dust, etc, and the outer face of which presents a smooth surface for use as a table.
Oil and gas cook stoves, which have no backs and which usually must be located near a wall are objectionable owing to the fact that the grease when cooking splashes on the Wall and adjacent objects and it is to overcome these objections that this invention is designed.
With these and other objects in view. the
invention consists in certan novel features pending peripheralflange 2 and burners 3.
The top It is'provided at one end thereof adjacent the depending flange 2 with. a transversely extending slot 4:, for a purpose presently to be'described.
The cover 5 constituting this invention is shaped to conform to the top 1 of the stove, being here shown rectangular, and is provided with a circumferentially extending right angularly disposed inturned flange 6, the free edge of which is designed to rest on the upper face of the top 1 of the stove adjacent the flange thereof and hold the body portion of the cover 5 spaced above the burners 3. This cover 5 is hinged at 'Z to the rear edge of the stove cover 1 and a link or iron strap 8 is pivotally connected at one end to one end of the cover 5 midway the width thereof, while its other end is notched, as shown at 9, and is adapted to extend through the slot 4: in the top 1 and i the notch to engage the rear wall of said slot to hold the cover 5 in upright open position as is shown clearly in Fig, 3.
It will thus beseensthat the cover 5 when in lowered position protects the burners 3 against dust, dirt and the like, and when opened and swung to the position shown in the drawings will be held by the brace or link 8 and protect the wall at the rear of the stove against the splashing of th grease thereon. 1
Vapor stoves equipped with warming ovens shelves, backs and the like, are much more expensive than the plates such as that shown in the drawings and yet when the plates are equipped with the covers herein shown and constituting this invention will dill is not in use, as well as providing a table which is especially desirable in small kitchens and yet is comparatively inexpensive to manufacture.
While the cover 5 is shown connected with the top 1 by strap hinges in the accompany-- ing drawings, obviously any other form of hinge may be provided.
The preferred embodiment of the inven tion is disclosed in the drawings and set forth in the specificatiom butit will he understood that any modifications within the scope of the claimed invention may be made in the construction without departing from the principle of the invention or sacrificing any of its advantages. 1
What ll claim is 21- The combination with a stove top provided with a continuous outwardly flared depending flange and further proyided with a transverse slot in proximity to one side of said flange, of a cover having a vertically disposed continuous flange conforming in contour to the shape of said top and adapted to have its lower edge seat on the upper lid edge of -said flared flange when the cover is closed, means for hinging the rear portion of the flange of-the cover to the rear portion of the flange of the top, and a sup portin element permanently extending throng said slot and having its upper end pivoted to the inner face of one side of the flange of the cover, said element provided port the cover at right angles with respect to the rear of the top.
In testimony whereof, I aflix my signature hereto.
FLORENCE L. ROBERTSON.
