GEORGE S. SANDNER, J R., OF BALTIMORE, MARYLAND, ASSIGNOB TO AN TON WEISKETEL, JR, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN RANGES OR COOKING-STOVES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 213,694, dated March 25, 1879; application filed December 23, 1878.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE S. SANDNER, J r., of Baltimore city, State of Maryland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ranges or Cooking-Stoves; and I hereby declare the same to be fully, clearly, and exactly described as follows, reference bein g had to the accompanying drawing, in which is represented, in perspective View, so much of a stove as embodies my present invention.
My said invention is designed to supply a want long felt by persons using the class of stoves named 5 and it consists, broadly, in so attaching the stove-shelves to the door that the former are drawn out in a right line as the latter is opened, and specifically in the peculiar device forQaccomplishing that end, constructed and operating as hereinafter described.
The occasion frequently arises in using a range or cooking-stove for inspecting the articles being baked, in order to ascertain when they are properly done. 4
It has been customary, and indeed heretofore necessary, to grasp the end of the bakingpan and withdraw it from the stove sufficiently to en able its contents to beinspected-a method attended with inconvenience and annoyance to the person practicing it.
By my invention this trouble is avoided, as
the shelf is withdrawn from the stove as the door is opened, and returned as the door is closed.
In the accompanying drawings, A represents a range or cooking-stove of ordinary construction, having a door, B, and cleatsa a at the sides of the oven for the baking-shelves G. The door B is provided with perforated lugs b 1), whose upper surfaces are slightly below the under surfaces of the shelves 0.
A rod or bar, 0, curved as shown, is pivoted to the rear side of the shelf, at the bottom, and at the opposite end is provided with a pin, which enters the hole in the corresponding lug b upon the door. The front corner of the shelf nearest the door is slightly cut away, in order to prevent interference as the door is opened or closed.
The operation of the parts will have been made evident from the foregoing description of their construction and mutual adaptation.
Generally but one shelf is used in a range; so I adapt that one for use upon either the lower or upper cleats. When two are used, either or both may be attached to the door, as may be desired. The bar 0, being curved, admits of the door B being opened until it is in line with the side of the stove.
I do not claim to be the inventor, broadly, of a stove-shelf adapted to be withdrawn from the stove in a right line as the door is opened, my invention consisting in the particular mechanism for accomplishing that end, hereinbefore described, and illustrated in the accompanying drawing.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. In combination with the shelf 0 anddoor B, the curved rod 0, pivoted to both, substantially as described.
2. In combination with the stove A, having cleats a a, the shelf 0, curved rod 0, and door B, having lugs b b, substantially as described.
GEORGE s. SANDNEB, JR.
