Description

(No Model.)
f w. B. BILLINGS. GbMBINED BAKER AND BOILER.
' N0.260,081. 4 Patented June 27, 1882..
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM B. BILLINGS, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
COMBINED BAKER AND BOILER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 260,081, dated June 27, 1882.
Application filed May 18, 1882.
To all whom it may concern:
Be itknown that I, WILLIAM B. BILLINGS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cooking, called a Combined Baker and Boiler, and
I do hereby declare the following to be a full,
clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference beinghad to the accompanying drawings, and to letters or figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification. V
Figure 1 is a plan view of a blank or pattern from which I construct the body portion of my baker and boiler. Fig. 2 is a front elevation; Fig. 3, a'perspective; and Fig. 4 is a plan of the entire apparatus.
' A represents the bottom, B B the ends, and O the top; and 0 represents those portions of the blank which are turned at right angles to its body portion to form flanges, which, when the blank is folded or bent on the transverse line b, form the sides of a flue, c, which extends completely around the top, bottom, and two ends of the apparatus, and which flue is otherwise completed or inclosed by the additionof an outer jacket or covering, D, which also forms the back of the apparatus.
A suitable door, E, is provided, and a central flue,,.F, of oval contour in cross-section at the bottom,f, and circular at the top,f, is inserted through both the lining and the jacket D at the bottom and only through the lining atthe top.
Within the upper flue, c, and just beneath the top, 0, is a damper or gate, G, secured to a handle, 9, which extends through the jacket, as clearly shown in the drawings.
This apparatus may be constructed of tin, sheet-iron, or other suitable material, either with or without an internal frame-work of cast- (No model.)
iron to which the lining and jacket may be 5 suitably riveted and stayed, or it maybe otherwise fastened together, and a shelf, H, maybe used or, not, as desired.
It will be seen that the oval bottom opening of the flue may be circular, if desired, the only requirement being that it shall be adapted to be connected to a vapor, coal-oil, or other stove, and when thus connected the flue F, when the damper G is closed, acts solely as a radiator within the apparatus, and the heat is other suitable vessel placed directly thereover. 63
Having described my invention and its operation, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
' 1. As an article of manufacture, acombined baker and boiler comprising a jacketed oven 65 having a central vertical flue, the lower end of which is adapted to be connected with a stove, as described, and the upper end of which terminates at the upper side of the oven and communicates thereat with a continuous flue extending about the oven, and a damper located over the said upper end of the flue, whereby the heat in said flue may be used directly at its upper end or radiated therefrom within and from the center of the baker, all substantially as shown and described.
2. The combination of the oven AB 0, jacket D, central vertical flue, F, and damper G g, the lower end of said flue being adapted for connection to a stove, and communicating with the surrounding flue 0 when the openingf is closed by the damper, substantially as shown and described.
W. B. BILLINGS.
