JOHN C. MABEY, OF KANSAS CITY, IvIISSOURI.
GARMENT SUPPORTEB;
Application filed June 17, 1922. Serial No. 568,991,
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN C. MABRY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Kansas City, in the county of Jackson and State of Missouri, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Garment Supporters, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in garment supporters. It is particularly well adapted for use as the trouser attaching means on suspenders.
The object of my invention is to provide a garment supporter which is simple, cheap strong, durable, not liable to get out of order andwhich may be easily and quickly attached to or detached from the trousers, when the suspenders are worn either inside or at the outside of the shirt;
My invention provides further novel means for securing the garment engaging pin to the'member which carries the pin.
The novel features of my invention are hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawing, which illustrates the preferred embodiment of my invention,
. Fig. l is a reduced view showing some of my improved supporters attached to a pair of suspenders.
Fig. 2 is an enlarged front elevation of my improved garment supporter shown in the garment engaging position and attached to a portion of a suspender.
Fig. 3 is a view similar to Fig. 2 with the pin supporting member shown in the release position.
Fig. 4 is an enlarged vertical sectional View on the line 4-4 of Fig. 2.
Fig. 5 is a cross section on the line 55 of Fig. 4.
Fig. 6 is a cross section on the line 66 of Fig. 4.
Fig. 7 is a perspective view of the pin sup porting member.
Fig. 8 is a perspective view of the housing member.
Fig. 9 is a perspective view of my improved garment supporter with the pin and its supporting member shown in the garment en aging position. v
imilar reference characters designate similar parts in the different views.
I designates a housingmember having a flat body portion and two' tubular end por-- tionsserving as housing-2and 3 and spaced apart from each other and adapte'dto receive between them a portion of a garment, such as trousers 4, Fig. 4. I
Longitudinally slidable in the housings 2 and 8 is a pin supporting member compris ing a flat plate 5, provided adjacent to one end with means for attachment to wearing apparel, which means may comprise holes 6,
through which extend threads 7, by, which the plate 5 is attached to wearing apparel, such as thetab 8, of a pair of suspenders 9, Figs. 1, 2 and 3.
The lower portion of the plate5 has a lateral extension 9, which is provided with a. longitudinal hole 10, through which 'ex-, tends a longitudinal pin 11, the upperendi' of which is pointed and adapted to be extended through the garment to be supported, such as the trousers 4. The extension 9 is provided with areversely turned lip 12, which extends-overthe' hole 10 and bears againstthe lower-"end of the pin 11, so as to hold the latter in its operative position.
of the pin 11 may be U-shaped, the short arm of the U being extended through a hole 13 provided in the extension 9. The pin 11 is longitudinally movable'with the member 5 in the housing 2 to and 'from the garment engaging POSltlOll, shown in Fig. 2, in which the pin 11 will have itsfree end extendingintothehousing-3. For supportingfthe pin 1.1, a triangular tongue 14maybe punched from theplate 5w at rightangles to the body of the latter,
the outer end of the tongue being'provided with an arcuate notch 15, in which the pin 11 is seated. The tongue 14 is .of a length sufiicient to cause it to hold the'pin 11 against the inner side of the housing 2, as shown in Figs. 4 and 6. The outer sides'of the housings 2 and 3 may be V-s'haped, .as shown, so as to serve as a forthe pin 11. Y In the operation of 'my invention, the plate 5 is slid downwardly to the open po sition shown in Fig.3, in which-position the pin 11 will have its upper portion, drawn into the housing 2. The trousers 4 togethet with the shirt 16, indicated in dotted E-lines" in Fig. 4, are then inserted betweemthc housings 2 and 8, after which the plate 5 s drawn 1 w dly t t i a fme t ing positionrshown F'iQ'SJQ'T'fi. -'d 4; .1n
which "position the 9111*111 will ititnd through the trousers 4i, shirt 16 and into the housing 3. The pull or" the trousers downwardly on the housing 2 will hold the latter against the extension 9, thus holding the pin 11 in the housing 3, so that the trousers and shirt cannot he accidentally detached from the pin 11.
When it is desired to detach the supporter from the trousers and the shirt, the plate 5 is forced downwardly to the release position shown in Fig. 3, thereby withdrawing the pin 11 from the trousers and shirt.
To yieldingly hold the plate 5 and member 1, in the release position shown in Fig. 3, so that the garment to be supported may be readily inserted between the housings 2 and 3, suitable means may be provided.
F or efiecting this function, the. plate 5 may have punched and protruding from it a re silient tongue 17, which bears against the member 1 with a spring pressure, thereby affording yielding frictional engagement between the members 1 and 5, which yieldingly holds said members from accidental sliding movement one upon the other.
I do not limit my invention to the structure shown and described, as many modifications, within the scope of the appended claims, may be made without departing from the spirit of my invention.
lVhat I claim is l. In a garment supporter, two members, one having means for attachment towearing apparel, said members being longitudinally slidable one on the other, one oi the members having a housing, and a longitudinally disposed pin attached to and movable with the other member and adapted to have its free end enter said housing, the pin carrying member being movable to and from a position in which the free end of the pin will be spaced apart from said housing, substantially as set forth.
2. In a garment supporter, two members, one having means for attachment to wearing apparel, said members being 1ongitu- "dinally slidable one on the other, one of the members having a housing, the other memher having a lateral extension, and a longitudin'ally disposed pin attached at its outer end to said extension and adapted to have its inner free end enter said housing, the pin carrying member being movable to and irom a position in which the free end of the pin will be spaced apart from said housing, substantially as set forth. 7
