FREDERICK HACHMANN, OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI, ASSIGNOR TOWILIiIAIVI I-I. GREGG,
kF ST. LOUIS, 'MISSOURI METAL BOOK COVER.
To all whom'z't'mag/ concern Y Be it known that I, FREDERICK HACH- MANN, a citizen of the United States, and
resident of the city of; St. Lo'uisand State ofvMissouri, have' invented cert-ain new and useful Improvements 1n Metal Book Covers,
of which the following is a specification containing a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had tothe accompany- IU ing dra-wings, forming a part hereof.
' Myinvention relates to improvements in metaltbook covers, and has for its ob-jecta book cover constructed entirely of metal, which is adapted lto hold a sales ticket, a tis- 5 suebook and a total sales check.
n In the drawingsy Fig. 1 is'afside elevation of my device 1n closed position;
Fig. 2 isa top plan view of rthesame; Fig. 3 is a view showing the book open,
with one of the tissue sheetsl inserted beneath the 4sales slip;
Fig. t s a plan view of the book opened, with `the sales ticket and tissue book re` .5 moved;
4 Fig. 5 is a plan view of one of the covers,
partially formed; n Fig'. 6 is a similar view of the other cover, partiallyformed; y if Fig. 7 is a plan view of the sales ticket y carrying portion as stamped;
Fig. 8 is a plan view of the tissue book re- 4 taining means as stamped; Fig. 9 is a perspective view of the same 55 after 'being formed;
Fig. -10 is a. plan view of the springclipr C* stamped; and Fig. 1.1 is al fragment-al perspective of one of thecovers showing the pocket for retaining one edge ofthe total sales ticket.
for holdin@- .the sales ticket in place as `In the construction of my device I employ f fa book having covers 12 and 13. Both of thesecovers are provided adjacent three vent their scratchingthe furniture.
The cover 12 isprovided alongy one ofitsl sales slip. The cover 12 is provided along 3 the portion 27 is folded over the portion 25,
`one of its short' edges ,with projections or' edges with a bead V14, `which is for the p'urfV vposeof stiffening the covers and also-to pre-I4 vApplication led March 12, 1921. Serial No. 451,930.
its side or along edges with flanges 18. These flanges are adapted to be folded over and act as stiffening ribs for the cover, as well as Yto close thee-nds of the pocket 19 formed b-y a right-angular bent portion 22, this forming the back of the book, the portion 22 be-` ing adjacent the tongues or projections 20. In the portion 22 of the cover 13 are formed perforations 23, through which rivets are designed to pass, these rivets passing f through openings 24 formed in the portion 25 of the tissue book retaining means 26. This retaining means is ystamped yfrom a single sheet4 of metal and has one portion 75 thereof grooved as at 27. This is for the purpose of stiffening.
Adjacent the grooved portion 27 is a-slit 28, extending almost the entire length, and
as is clearlyshown in Fig. 9.y This tissue book retaining clamp` is madey of'spring metal and in order to insert the book the free portion 27 is pulledfoutwardand one of the covers of the tissue book 29 inserted between the members25 and 27. This securely holds the book in position.
The sales ticket supporting means consists of a lea-f `or plate 30, which is provided along no tongues 31, which are designed tobe bent into the shape of eyelets and inserted between the eyelets formed out of the projections 21. After this insertion has been completed,'a wire 32 is inserted through the eye- 95 lets, thus 'forming a hinge.V 4The eyelets formed out of the projections 'or tongues 16 are inserted'between the eyelets formed out of the' projections20 and a wire 33 inserted, which forms a'hinge for the twoA covers.1 100 The opposite short edge ofthe plate 30 is provided with projections 34, which are also formed into eyeletsl- The pla-te 30 has' formed in ita series ofserratio-ns 35, which are designed tO be bent upward at right angles, as illustrated'in Fig. 1, and grip thennder side of the sales ticket 36. The plate 30 is also provided with a vert-ical bent portion 37, this portion being adjacent the tongues the projections fl (l thumb notch 4l, for rai-sing.v the plate when` as shown in Fig.' 3.
The upper clamping member consists ot a bar 38 having a serrated edge 39, whichis designed to be bent at right angles and come in Contact with the upper 'tace of the sales book The plate 38,' is furtherprovided on both its ends with projections 40, which extend beyond the edge of the book andare for the purpose ot raising the' plate' 3() so that the used sheet from .the tissuev book can be readily inserted under the plate The plate 39 is also provided with a it is desired to insert the'rbook.
Alongthe edges of the plate 3S and oppor`site the serrated edge 39 are projections 42, which are bent intothe rtorm ot eyeletsand The uppermost sales ticket is raised and one -leatl of the tissue book inserted underneath it and as the sales tickets are made out in duplicate with a double faced carbon, this carbon will make an impression on the tissuesheet at the same time that the duplicate sales tickets are bei-ng madeout. Then,
in order to place the tissue sheet underneath the plate 30, it is only' necessary ior the clerk to grip the projections 40 and raisey the plate '30. This will withdraw the tissue sheet from between the sales tickets andvwhen the plate, 3.0 has been raised'suiiiciently the tissue' sheet will fallk of its own accord` andrest on the cover 13, when the plate 3() can be lowered upon` the tissue sheet.`
Having fully described my invention, what I. claim is: i
