ran roa rnnssme macnmns.
Application filed June 14, 1920. Serial No. 388,753.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, OSCAR E. W. BRUNK, a citizen of the United States, residing at the city of St. Louis and State of Missouri, have invented a new and useful. Pad for Pressing Machines, of which the following is a specification. Y r
This invention relatesto pads for preming machines.
- An object of the invention is to provide an improved device adapted to be placed upon the heated buck of a pressing machine to support the cloth pad upon which, the garment or fabric is placed. so that the cloth pad will be held out of contact with vide a pad for the purpose mentioned com posed of resilient metal shavings felted and secured to a reticulated side member which retains the felted shavings in proper assembly during a long period of use. If desired, the felted shavings may be secured between a pair of reticulated side members.
In the accompanying drawings, in which I have illustrated the invention- Fig. 1 is a plan view of my improved pressing pad, a part of the reticulated side member being broken away to disclose the metal shavings in connection therewith.
Fig. 2 is a sectional view illustrating details of the invention in which a single reticulated side member is used.
Fig. 3 is a sectional view illustrating'thedetails of the invention in which a pair of reticulated side members enclose the felted shavings between them.
I have not shown the pressing machine for the reason that the invention may be used,
-the pad. is secured to the felted mass of shavings holding the mass in proper form and relationship and preventing separation thereof. Asshown, a series of binders 2, which may be composed of wire staples, P ss through the reticulated side member and through the mass of felted shavings adjacent to their edges forming a bordering series of fasteners or binders around the edge of the pad. This leaves the intermediate part of the pad free so that the resiliency of the shavings may be properly utilized when the pad is in use.
As shown in Fig. 3, the shavings are enclosed between the upper reticulated side member 3 and a similar lower side member 4, and said side members are clamped or secured to the mass and to each other by fasteners 5 arranged similar to the fasteners 2, shown in Figs. 1 and 2, and leaving the intermediate part of the pad free so that the resiliency of the metal shavings may be utilized when the pad is in use.
When the pad is in use thesteam of the usual pressing machine may pass through the garment and the pad in the usual mannet. The pad does not retain any material or substantial quantity of moisture so that when the head of the pressing machineis raised the garment is rapidly dried.
The pads may be easilyapplied to and removed from the machine and require no special devices to retain them in position.
What I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. An elasticand flexible pad for pressing machines, comprising a mass of felted spring metal shavings, in combination with a flexible reticulated side member on one side of the mass of shavings conforming to the shape of said mass, and binding elements binding the edges of the reticulated side member and the mass of shavings together, and leaving the intermediate portion of the mam of felted shavings free as to their resiliency, said pad being a unit that is applicable to and removable from the pressing machine assuch.
2. A flexible and elastic pad for pressing machines, comprising a mass of felted metal shavings, in combination with a pair of flexible reticulated side members embracing the mass of shavings between them, and means clamping the edges of the side members upon the interposed mass of shavings, leaving the relatively large intermediate portion of shavings relatively free from clamping action. said pad comprising a unit that is applicable to and removable from a pressing machine as such.
OSCAR E. WV. BRUNK.
