Description

N. B. HARPOLD MATTRESS PROTECTOR AND SPRING EQUALIZER Filed Feb. 6, 1926 Patented Oct. 12, 1926.
UNITED STATES means NAPOLEON B. HARIOLD, OF FORT SCOTT, KANSAS.
MATTRESS PROTECTOR AND SPRING EQUALIZER.
Application filed February 6, 1926. Serial No. 86,572.
This invention relates to a mattress support for a bed, the general object of the invention being to provide a flexible member which is adapted to be placed between the mattress and the bed springs so as to prevent damage to the mattress from the springs and to equalize the weight of the sleeper on the springs.
Another object of the invention is to provide means for detachably connecting the device to the springs.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claim.
In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several. views, and in which 2- Figure 1 is a perspective View of the bot tom part of the device.
Figure 2 is a top plan view.
Figure 3 is a section on line 3- 3 of Figure 2.
Figure 4 is a view similar to Figure 3, but showing a modification.
Figure 5 is a fragmentary bottom plan view of Figure 4.
In these views, 1 indicates a board formed of wood fiber or the like and which is of such thickness that it will be flexible enough to give under the weight of a sleeper when the board is placed between the mattress and the bed springs. This board is provided with an edging 2 of suitable material. for covering its edges and a. plurality of spring clips 3 are fastened to the board, preferably by the bolts 4: which pass through the board and through one limb of each clip, these clips being of angle shape. The second limb of each clip depends downwardly and is adapted to yieldingly engage a part of the bed springs, as shown at 5 in Figure 3. A loop 6 is formed at the junction of the limbs of each clip and this loop receives a portion of the bed sprin Thus the device is detachably held on the bed springs and a mattress is adapted to be placed on the device so that the device willprevent damage to the mattress by the springs and at the same time it will equalize the weight of the sleeper on the mattress upon the springs.
If desired, the heads of the bolts may be covered with caps 7 of any suitable material to prevent the'heads from damaging the mattress and I may make each clip loop form, as shown in Figures 4 and 5, with one limb S of the l'iorizontal portion of the clip engaging the top face of the plate and the lower part 9 of said horizontal limb engaging the lower face of the plate, the parts being fastened together by the rivets 1.0. The vertical limb of each. clip is formed of the depending portions of the parts 8 and 9 which are pressed together, as shown at 11.
This device will not only protect the mat tress, but will also prevent certain parts of the springs becoming weakened under constant use, so that the life of the springs will be greatly increased by the use of this device.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent.
I desire it to be understood that I may make changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appenued claim.
hat I claim .ln:
A device ad pted to be placed between the springs and mattress of a bed comprising a. flexible plate of wood fiber or the like, angle shaped springs connected with the plate, the depending parts of the p having loops at their point of junction with the other parts, said loops receivf. j portions of the bed springs.
In testimony whereof I aiiix my signa" ture.
