This invention relates-to; meansor devices for rendering more} comfortable persons clothing'duringwarm weather and has for an objectthe provision of an appliance specifically designed to bev used in connection with a blouse or analogous garments for holding the bottom edge portion thereof in spaced relation 'to the garment or: garments therebeneath. By this arrangement there-is permitted a free circulation of air upon and about those portions of the body which usually receive the least, and as a result a material reduction in the temperature about the body is secured.
It is further a purpose of the present invention to provide a means of this nature that is of an extremely simple and economical construction, and which in addition may be quickly and conveniently attached and detached.
Withthe above and-other objects of similar nature in view, the invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts, set forth in and falling within the scope of the appended claim.
In the drawing: a
Figure 1 is a section through the lower and upper portions of a blouse and trousers respectively, with the invention associated therewith, j
Fig. 2 is a horizontal section taken on the line 22 of Fig. 1,
Fig. .3 is a detail section through one of the spacing devices and the related portions of the garments, and
Fig. 4 is a perspective view of one of the spacing devices detached.
Referring now more particularly to the accompanying drawing, there is shown the lower portion of a blouse 5', the bottom edge of which is provided-with a heading 6 having drawn therethrough a flexible band or tape 7 that is starched or otherwise suitably stiflened. There is also conventionally illustrated the upper portion of a pair of trouspeeificationof Letters Patent.

' se i h ii onlt e ofw wi l pe the blouse being that normally assumed;
when properly adjusted upon the body of the wearer QItf will be noted that the lower portion-of thesblouse is of a diameter greater the waist-band .of the trousersand that itslmarglnial edge has been folded inwardly to give to the blouse the requisite fullness.
It Will also be noted that theheading of the blouse is disposed in a spaced relation tothe. trousers, the stiffeningband 7 serving withthe elements to be-describedfln pre- 1 serving such spacing for-the full circumference of the blouse. j
The ,inventioncomprises a pluralitytof spacing devices 9 identical; in. q nstruction and similarly applied at spaced intervals between the blouse and trousers as clearly illustrated. As above stated these spacing de-l vicesare identical in all respects and a description of one will therefore suflice for all.
Each of the devices 9 consists of a strip of suitable resilient material formed to produce an arcuate how 10 between its ends. At one end of this bow, there is a straight portion of the strip, which extends tangentially to the bow,.in the form of a'leg A, while at the other end of the bow, there is a straight portion of the strip which extends outwardly from the bow at an angle and in a line intersectingthe are of the bow, thus forming a second leg B, lying in a plane parallel with the leg A and project" ing somewhat therebeyond, so that when position, with the legs directed downwardly,

the leg B will extend below the leg A as r 1 shown particularly in Fig. 3 of the drawings. Each of the legs A and B is provided adjacent its end with outwardly directed spaced ears 11 formed integrally with the strip and provided with transversely alined openings. The terminals of said legs are furthermore directed outwardly at substantially right angles and have their end edge portion serrated to provide suitable gripping jaws 13. These extremities of the legs of the strip constitute corresponding elements-of a pair of spring pressed clasps 14:,
the other elements thereof being in the form of plates 15 having integral ears 16 pivoted to the corresponding ears 11 and provided with serrated jaws 17 coiiperating with the jaws 13. The opposite ends of the plates 15 from the jaws 17 are in the nature of finger pieces by which the clasps are manipw relation. v U V n V In applying the spacingdevices, the clasps lated, while springs 18 are interposed between said. plates and the legs of the strlp to maintai'n the jaws normally in gripping carried by the shorter ofthe legs are engaged withtheheading 6 of the bl011se while those Icarriedb'y the longer of the *legs, are engaged 4 with the band of the trousers 8. The bottomed'ge of t'he" blouse is in this manner efq fectually'j held'in spaced relation to the trousers and thus permitsgof a free circula- "tion of air around and upon'the bodyofthe press'the'. legs of the strip While the. latter will assume'their normal position'when such pressure i removed. The partlcular-formation' ofthe bow 10 and its legs provides for a yieldingreslstance to downward movement I of the edge of the blouse as well as inward By the'present invention there is provided come of this patent niay be obtained for movement thereof, as will be understood.
an extremely simple, effectual andeconon'lr cal arrangement capable of rendering clothing much more comfortable to the wearer during warm weather by materially reducing the temperature around the body through the medium of ventilation nd free circulation of air.
What I claim is 'A device 'for supporting the lower edge of a blouse or similar garment and for holding suchedge in spacedrelation to the garment-thereben'eath, consisting of an arcuate resilient bow having straight legs at its ends,
one of said legs merging into the bow at a tangent thereto and the other leg extending outwardly of the bow in a line intersectlng the bow and projecting beyond the extremity of the first-mentioned leg and members carried by the legs and arrangedfor cooperation with the extremities of the legs to produce a gripping action.
In testimony whereof, I aifix my signature, in the presence of two witnesses.
