UNITED STATES BENJAMIN o. BUBAR, or BLAINE, MAINE.
COLLAR-SUPPORTER.
Specication of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 9, 1909.
Application :filed June 25, 1908. Serial No. 440,280.
To all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, BENJAMIN C. BUBAR, a citizen of the United States, residing at Blaine, in the county of Aroostook and State of Maine, have invented a new and useful Collar-Supporter, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a collar holding attachment.
The object of the invention is to provide a simple, inexpensive, and thoroughly etlicient device to be used to hold down a collar of a shirt and at the same time to hold up the collar of a vest, whereby the latter` will be prevented from working under the former.
Furthermore an object of the invention is to provide an article of this character which may readily be applied to position, and the use of which will injure neither the vest nor the collar.
With the above and other objects in View, as will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in the novel construction and combination of parts of a collar holding attachment, as-
will be hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the accompanyingdrawings forming a part of this specification, and in which like characters of reference indicate corresponding` parts: Figure l is a View in sectional elevation through a collar, neck band of a shirt and the collar of a vest, showing the device forming the subject matter of the invention applied to position. Fig. 2 is a perspective detail view of the attachment.
The article embodies a safety pin designated generally 1 and a collar button engaging clip or member designated generally 2.
From a stand point of economy and simplicity of construction, it will generally be preferred to construct a pin and cli of a single piece of resilient wire preferab y one that is non-oxidizable, such as brass wire, which may be nickel plated.
In constructing the article, a piece of wire of suitable length is bent upon itself, and at the bend is formed the collar button engaging eye 3. The two members are then iexed laterally to cause them to occupy an angular relation to each other, and to provide two arms 4 and 5. The lower end of arm 4 is bent inward to form a seat 6, and thence bent outward and has secured to it in any preferred manner, a guard 7 of the usual construction. The arm 5 is bent to form a seat 8, thence into two or more whirls 9 and is then extended a sufficient distance to permit its end, which is sharpened, to form a pin, to engage with the guard 7, it being seen by reference to Fig. 2 that the point of the pin projects laterally beyond the adjacent arm 4, thus to facilitate its connection with a garment.
In order to hold the arms against spreading when the article is in use, and also to impart the requisite rigidity to the article, a brace 1l is provided, which is constructed from a piece of wire, the ends of which are looped around the seats 6 and 8.
In the use of the article, after the collar C has been brought into engagement with the collar button B, the pin is passed through the fabric of the back of the vest V, and the clip is then pushed upward between the plies of the collar, .and the eye 3 is sprung into engagement With the shank of the collar button as shown in Fig. 1. It will be seen from this ligure that not only will the collar be held down, but the vest will be held up, so that the collar of the latter will positively be prevented from working under the shirt collar.
As will be seen by reference to Fig. 1, the article is flat, all of the parts lying in substantially the same plane, so that when in position, it will not distort or bulge the vest collar, and thus its use will not be rendered apparent.
The device is simple of construction, may readily be manufactured, and applied to use, and will be found to secure the objects sought in a highly satisfactory manner, and without causing any discomfort to the user.
I claim:
A device for holding vest and shirt collars in position comprising a wire bent to form a button-engaging eye adapted to enter between the foldsof a shirt collar, the wire being flexed to form divergent members below said eye, the lower extremities of said members being turned inward to form seats In testimony that I claim the foregoing` :le and then both turned to one and the same my own, I have hereto affixed my signature slde and brought together laterally beyond 1n the presence ol two wltnesses.
the divergent member at that side to form a BENJAMIN C. U BAR. safety-'pin adapted to take n the fabric of a lVtnesses: vest, and a, brace extending between and J. H. BUBAR,
having its ends looped n said seats. LUTHER BUAR.
