and useful Improvements in Trousers Supporters, of which the following is a specification.
My invention has relation to improvements in trousers supporters, and consists in the novel features of construction more fully set forth in the specification and pointed out in the claim.
The object of the present invention is to provide a trousers supporter that fits inside the trousers and is detachable there from so that it may be used with different pairs of trousers. A further object is to provide a supporter for the'trousers in belt form that conforms to the shape of the waistline,
0 that is elastic, and that also gives a certain amount of abdominal support.- Further and other advantages will be more readily apparent from a detailed description of the invention in connection with the accom- 52:3 n ing drawings, in which Figure l is a front outline of the middle part of the male figure showing my invention in place ready to receive the trousers; Fig. 2 is a rear outline of the same with the trousers in place and supported by my improved supporter, a part of the trousers being in section to show how they are buttoned to the supporter; Fig. 3 is a face view of the invention opened out; Fig. 4 is an enlarged view of the end of the supporter that is provided with buttons whereby it is fastened to the other end; Fig. 5 is a vertical cross-section taken on the line 5-5 of Fig. 4; Fig. 6 is a modification of my invention having a suspensory combined with the trousers supporter.
Referring to the drawings, B represents an elastic band provided with a reinforcement strip 1 of non-elastic material intermediate between the ends, one end of which is provided with a binding 2 and the other with an overlap 3, the binding 2 being provided with holes 0, 0 separated polnts to receive the looped ends a, a of a cord 4: which are passed through the eyes of buttons 5 holding them in place on one side of the binding, the ends of the cord being secured together on the other side. The overlap 3 is provided with button-holes b, b for receiving the buttons 5, 5 when the band is in place around the waist of the wearer.
q About midway between each end of the reinforcement strip 1 and each end of the band B is a narrow reinforcement strip 6 constituting one of a pair, the other strip 6 of the pair being spaced a short distance from strip 6 toward the end of the band. The portions of the band extending from each strip 6 outwardly to each end (which may be called the terminal portions t, t of the band) are disposed at a slight angle to the medial portion m, the object of which is to permit the band B to follow the shape of the figure when in place on the wearer.
The reinforcement strip 1 is provided with button-holes c, 0 adjacent its upper edge and spaced apart, and each pair of stripes 6, 6 is also provided with button holes 0', 0 adjacent the upper edges of said strips. The object of the button-holes c, c and c, c is to enable the wearer to secure his trousers to the band after the latter is secured about the waist, each of the button-holes receiving a button 7 on the inner trouser hand, these trouser buttons, it being understood, ordinarily being fastened to suspenders. Of course, when my improved supporter is used to support the trousers suspenders are no longer necessary or desirable. The band B is of substantial width so that it will also furnish considerable abdominal support where needed. Owing to the tendency of trousers to dip down in the back as ordinarily made, I provide a recess 1" in the middle of the upper edge of the band B (and reinforcement strip 1) so that in cases where the trousers do sodip the band will not project above the trousers and present an untidy appearance.
In Fig. 6 I show a modification of the invention wherein if desired a suspensory element 10 may be secured to the band B to secure the combined advantages of a suspensory and trousers supporter.
By virtue of the downwardly inclined terminal portions 15, t, the front of the supporter (when in place on the wearer) is caused to bear against the abdomen somewhat lower than would be the case if the terminal portions t, 25 were continued in a straight line with the medial portion m. This, of course, gives abdominal support, and accomplishes, to a certain extent, the
functions of an abdominal supporter with it Having described my invention, I claim:
garment supporter, Without the necessity of A garment supporter Comprising an elasmaking the band B excessively Wide. tic band having openings disposed along its Then, from the standpoint of appearance, upper edge, the terminal portions of said 15 5 the downwardly dipping joined ends (at the band bein ermanently disposed at mienfront) will not show above the tr'otl'sersand gle" to the medial portion and extending make an unsightly impression. zwgyyi'rom said upper edge, and means for The reinforcement strips 6, 6 are essential securing the ends of the supporter together. tomaintain the terminal portions 25, t per- In testimony whereof I hereunto afiix my 20 10 manently at an angle with the medial porsignature.
